Hmmm My tyres won't shine!

Does anyone have any ideas why my tyres resist shine products? I have Bridgestone ER300's all round and they all refuse to shine. If I try a foam product, it just seems to bead-up and turns watery, and other spray-on products just dry really dull and you can't tell I've put it on. I wondered if the previous owner had applied something to them that was stopping any products from 'bonding'? It's really annoying as I always think cool looking tyres really finish off a clean car!

Try Meguiars high gloss tyre dress, you apply it with a sponge/cloth and the shine lasts weeks, smells nice too!!.

You get gloss or matt finishes depending on the product. (sorry if that's teaching you to suck eggs )

Lol, I did realise that. I have tried 'high shine' products like turtle wax 'extreme' dressing I think it is, for example, with no effect. I mean I hate that particular product and I know it's a typical Halfords purchase but it should still make the tyres shine. I've used it on other cars tyres successfully - though it ends up splattering onto your paintwork!

Re: My tyres won't shine!

The first thing you need to do is clean all the gunk and old layers of dressing off your tyres. A stiff brush and lots of grease cutting soapy wash (you can buy proprietary tyres cleaners but they are not really necessary). Scrub your tyres really well. Dry them.

Now you have a good platform to start from.

Apply a product like Meguiars Endurance Tyre Protectant (It's a GEL) with a dedicated sponge applicator. Be warned, it's mucky so wear latex goves if you have any.
Wipe it well in (don't let it run and drip all over the place). If you want extremely shiny tyres apply a second or even a third coat.

Mate, you will have shiny tyres.

An alternative is Meguiars NXT Insane Shine Tyre Spray which you can get in an aerosol or a spray bottle.

But, whatever you use, you must get the tyres cleaned up first.

Oh, and when you're finished you better polish up those alloys to complement the tyres

Best using a gel which you rub into the tyre wall, I use TWax nano gel

Re: My tyres won't shine!

Springbok, Brickman, thanks a lot for your advice. I'll give them a real good scrub as suggested and be prepared to be dazzled. Wazzin it down here at the mo but I'll let you know how I get on, cheers!
