Brand new car covered in sand - where to start?

So, brand new car (sadly not an Alfa this time) delivered yesterday on a low loader from Sheerness, arrived covered in fine sand/grit. Dabbed a wet finger on a mark and immediately left swirls in the soft new paint, so very keen to remove the coating of sand before attempting to wash and wax, so I don't cause any more damage to the paint.

What's the best way to do that? I'm thinking of spraying it with a water/autoglym shampoo mix before rinsing, should that do it?

Garage
yeah.. pre soak, shampoo soak, foam cannon, anything that does not touch the paint and lets all the particles fall off will do just fine.

Thanks for that - yes it's worked fine. Went on to clean and wax and looked great but obviously as soon as I'd finished it hammered down with rain and it's now covered with dust and stuff out of the rain...
