So what? China can't make things? I'm not sure I get your point? They are produced to a build sheet and requirements....

H'mmm , well ELITE GEARBOXES (a cassette sequential) got their shafts and cogs made in CHINA to a build sheet etc BUT many failed under racing conditions which is what the boxes were designed for , shafts that is. Steel quality problems. So you can instruct but if they think there's a bigger profit to be made by going their own way --- they'll try it .

Do you think the parts on your Alfa come from Italy on the production line?

Please don't get me started on the current model cars

I am on the other hand looking forward to seeing the new range of Alfas coming in the next couple of years.

They are not model cars . They are real and can be used every day , unlike what came before.

Well.. if a reputable manufacturer makes parts in China in their own factory (or at their favourite sub-contractor) then they're likely to be as well made as parts from anywhere else... but if they're made as pattern parts then I think you're taking a punt.

I had an "unknown" ICV from fleabay (35 vs 200 for a Bosch item). It looked the same, felt the same, was brand new rather than 130,000 miles old.. but the idle was lumpy.. until it finally settled at 1100rpm (too high). The old Bosch one - cleaned out and re-fitted, once I saw from the copy that the little slot inside was a wheel valve, supposed to rotate, rather than just be black gunge... gives me a teeeeeny flat spot off idle but lets the car idle perfectly.

All my parts i order on Ebay which 90% come from the United Kingdom, i n Australia parts are too expensive. I only buy original parts. The Alfa 147 oil filter original says made in China. An Australian seller has a brand called Clean Filter which says made in Italy.
