His point seems to be that they're not real roofbars. Except that they are real roofbars.

Perhaps he started the article convinced that they weren't, and didn't want to have to write it again when he realised they were?

"Car" is a sad shadow of its former self. I used to subscribe back in the day but once it sold out to EMAP it was never the same again.

It's a puzzle that it got past an editor and that he was paid for it. He's the other end of a needle from where the eye is.

Hmm, it is all a bit pointless, the writer seems to be confusing the Stelvio (which is after all an SUV) with something like an ex-MOD 'series' Landrover...

Odd man, hasn't he realized SUVs aren't designed for serious offroad use? Maybe someone should give him the first SUV, the Matra Rancho, to review for a laugh.

You should read AlfaOffRoad entries in the Stelvio forum.. Definitely off road.

I reckon it does pretty well off road but probably wonít do it often. Whereas on a snow covered road possibly a week a year itíd get me to work instead of using holiday up.
Oh, hang on, I retired last December.

Well, many of our 'proper' 4x4s will leave the standard SUVs standing, e.g. my Subaru's drivetrain is virtually the same as the one in those little Brat pickups all the farmers used in the late 70s / 80s so copes far better with the snow on the twisty, uncleared roads round where I live than most; I often laugh at BMWs embedded in hedges, drive gingerly past wheelspinning Touaregs, etc and even the occasional unwary Discovery driver, but I'm under no illusion it'll do anything like the sort of offroader the article writer is namedropping, like this
