Engine refuses to start

Hi guys, I took my phase 1 spider out this morning, travelled 40 miles stopping (engine off and restarting) 6 times at various places but then on the 7th time it refused to start, the engine turns over but refuses to fire, I have noticed that the key code light doesnít light up unlike before. Any clues as to what to try next to sort this issue, before it stopped it was all running great!!!

The key code light normally comes on momentarily then goes off and the engine starts.. I've had it when the yellow light won't go out and just turns over.. This is normally the ring that senses the key inside the barrel.. this problem sometimes returns for me and is a pain in the backside.. the other problem I've had is where the light goes and the engine turns but no start. this was a problem with the cam position sensor.. I had to wait in a KFC car park for about half an hour before it let me start the car again.. if it is the latter I'd get the sensor changed .. cost me about £20 for the part..

I experienced the same problem with the "code" light intermittently being off on my Phase 1. My advice is to check the yellow box which sends a signal to the ECU for dry joints or poor contacts. My story goes back a number of years: Got into my car after work and it would not fire up. Then noticed the code light did not come on. Fortunately the car could remain safely in my allocated parking space. I went back that evening with the spare key. No luck. I tried to start the car over a number of days with no success. And then one morning it started as if nothing ever mattered! No problems for about two years, and then the problem returned. Fortunately happened in my driveway. After three days of continuous trying, everything was fine. The next time (again months later) it happened at my parents' place and I had to move the car up the driveway using the starter motor for my dad to bring me home. Again it "fixed" itself after a few days. The last straw was when it happened late night some 35 miles from home and I had to first ask some-one to tow my car to a safe place and then to lend me a car! Went back with a tow rope after a few days. And the car fired up as if nothing was ever wrong. I then took the ECU to a specialist who by-passed the immobiliser. (I eventually painted the rear of the instrument cluster where the injection/ECU error light shines black as the ECU was (and still is) not happy and trying to alert my to something!) Thinking back, I believe that I should have had someone resolder the joints in the yellow box that send the signal to the ECU. (It is about the size of a 30's pack of cigarettes).

Hi,

Not sure if you have these on a CF1 but the only time I had a similar issue (CF2 V6) it was a (30A red) relay near the PAS fluid reservoir under the plastic cover - p/n 11129985. Jiggling one of them kicked the fuel pump into life.

I replaced all of them..
