Dear all,

Firstly, Happy Christmas to all fellow alfisti.

Having now changed or refurbed most parts on my V6 it’s time to sort out the paint (Nero 601).

A well regarded detailer in the area recommends a stage 2 paint correction, this will take then a complete day. Also there are quite a few car park dings, there must be about 25 dents in total if you were to look closely, some stand out more than others. All dents are are on the rear quarters and doors, most on the N/S.

Quotes are £400 for dents and £485 for detailing, all plus vat.

I suppose it comes down to how good the finish actually is. I’ll be happy to pay if it comes out decent.

Thoughts/comments welcome.

Hi,

You could just get the dents removed and detail at a later stage. My brother in law paid considerably less than that (£250 IIRC) to get the paint on a black MR2 corrected. My GTV has plenty of dings and has also been resprayed. Ideally I would have it resprayed properly, however it looks OK other than close up and I don't mind using it for trawling up and down the motorway/parking up at hotels when working away. What I mean is it's not too nice to use!

Regards
Jim

Dents and paint are probably the most difficult decision to take....
They don't affect driving or give you more of anything, but they can make a less desirable car look so much better.
Only had a paint jobs done once and it was a cheap and cheerful job, but it made the car look ten time better and more enjoyable to own. That said I spent a quarter of want I should have and the finish is not as good as one had hoped for. I still think it was worth it though. Full respray with some body work improvement at £1200. Had many other quotes past £4-5k which to me would have been a waste, as about as much as the car was worth.
So as mentioned a very difficult and individual choice...
