Hold onto your GTAs lads...

... because from now on I reckon they are going to be pretty much depreciation-free. For the last 6 months they have gone up in price, especially the nice ones.

Now I have my trusty Mondeo as a daily drive, I can keep the miles off the GTA and reduce daily wear and tear

I've noticed that, hence why I don't mind spending a little extra on it to keep it perfect.

Alfa 147 GTA

Good news. I've a 2003 (03) plate 147 GTA with 32k miles and I've thought really that gearbox issues aside, its condition and mileage (and rarity) are not necessarily reflected in book value.

Prices are holding up well for the right cars but there are a lot of very sad GTA’s out there, most of them owned by people that don’t appreciate what they have

You've bought and sold a few Ned.......what's your opinion on a modded example, over an all original, in terms of value??

We work on a lot more then we ever sold new or used. We built 3.8 GTA’s and no one spending that kind of money on there cars ever intends on selling it, the best cars are not for sale.

Tasteful improvements will increase the cars value, chaving will have an adverse affect.

We had a guy recently that wanted the best 147 GTA money could buy, he went to see every 147 GTA for sale and bought a car from Veloces of London for 12k , and then spent another 11k with us having “everything”, and I mean everything.

Really? Why is that?

We do not specialise in selling cars, we work on and built the best, are you ever going to buy a GTA or just talk about it?

Well it took me 3 years of looking before I bought my Lotus Exige Series 1, 2 years before buying my concours MG Midget, 18 months before buying the Range Rover and 9 months before buying the Defender............so as you can see i'm not the most impulsive
purchaser!

One day, you might have all left this life but, one day!

He'll have one nice car now then!
I'm resting my GTA now, just a little weekend use, so to speak. I don't intend on selling her. I want to get her into the best original condition as I can afford. Mechanically she is sound....although new lower wishbones will be fitted soon. I want to get the front end resprayed.....bumper(again!), bonnet, wings, and a pillars. I also want to fit a new screen, as mine is badly chipped....this will be fitted before the paint is done. New teledials will also be fitted. There are many other little things.....she's a labour of love, but worth it.

I also intend to hold onto mine. I've had it nearly three years and the love is still strong. The way I look at it is I'll never be able to have anything better. At best I could get an equivalent.

It's not perfect (wear to seat, few chips to paint) but it's mine it's modified how I want it and I know exactly what works and what doesn't.

18 months ago the values bottomed out, and from then on they have steadily and rapidly gone back up. Most people wrote this off as a blip; a reaction against the planned £450 road tax and fuel prices. I think partly it was, but the climb in prices past where they were is the normal appreciation of a classic car, just at a much faster rate. The E34 M5 has started climbing back up in price after spending 7-8 years being a £2k car. Good ones are now £6k, but these cars are 20+years old now. The reason the GTAs have been recognised as a classic way before they've got to the usual age is because nothing Alfa have come out with since, or have planned to release in the next 5 years are in the same league (and I'm not talking about out-right performance, I'm talking about the things you can't find out by reading the fact's & figures section of Parkers). So while the GTA is not yet a classic car, it is already a classic Alfa, and the values are reflecting this. The last true Alfa? People said that about the 75 but I think the GTAs might just steal the crown.

i think they hold there value better staddard !!!! when i was looking to buy mine i wanted a standard car and was willing to pay more for a standard one,, and my cars staying standard i do know some things on the gta could do with changing like the back boxes and stuff, but its not going to happen on my car the only thing i have changed on a matter of having to is to the q2 but dont think theres any way around that one

Value is not a concern to me. I've had her 18 months now and she was in a sorry state when I bought her. 43k miles later and spend more on upgrades and general servicing that I originally paid, she is driving sweeter than any car I've owned.
Used everyday, 80 mile round trip to work and I can't think of any other car in or around this price range I would rather have.
My GTA ain't goin' nowhere, so selling price don't bother me.....now, the price of the supersprint exhaust I need is a different matter.
