I'm going to be picking up my new (to me) Giulietta tomorrow.
It's a 2013 JTDM 140.
It's been remapped by Autolusso to 180bhp, and it's had an EGR delete.
This will be my first diesel, and to be honest I'm not 100% sure what the EGR delete does, and what the benefits and/or drawbacks are. I'd be grateful if anyone has any further information that they could give me. Essentially I'd like to know whether the EGR delete can cause any potential issues further down the line, or whether it's a good thing to have!
An EGR delete will increase fuel economy, stop soot buildup in the inlet manilfold and improve throttle response.
Downsides is that it increases the levels on nitrogen dioxide emitted by the engine and as technically you have altered the emissions equipment on your car you are now breaking the law by using it.
But the MOT test cannot pick this up and I am not sure how it can be policed...
One of the best things that can be done to a modern diesel, all the cr@p EGR chucks in to the inlet causes issues.
As said technically illegal but unless DVSA interrogate the map or start taking EGR equipment off they will never know it’s been done. So long as DPF is still fitted and functioning you will be fine
I’ve never read of any EGR issues with the Giulietta on here. I did however have the thing on my 147 Q2 years ago, fixed on warranty then failed again. Seems they developed it better for the Giulietta?
I'm interested in hearing a bit more about this. I don't plan on doing it, probably too much hassle here in Ireland with the lack of Alfa specialists here, but I'm interested in what happens emissions after the EGR is deleted. What ones go up? Can any go down?
The recycled exhaust gases cool the combustion temperatures which reduces the production of Oxides of Nitrogen. However this makes the car slightly less fuel efficient, so by blanking it you will reduce the CO2 output from the exhaust.
The G has a water cooled EGR, which means that the exhaust gases are not hot enough to bake oil into carbon (from the crankcase ventilation) into the EGR valve. Hence why water cooled EGR's are a lot less troublesome than earlier non cooled ones.
Probably not allowed to visibly use a Ferrari-linked name?
