Unable to start, starter motor turns but engine does not fire

Hi all,

I have a 2015 Giulietta 1.4 petrol automatic.

The car has not been started for a month.

When cranking the engine, the usual sound of the starter motor is heard but engine does not start ...

Jump starting does not work.

I have changed the battery and still have some problem.

Sounds like it wants to start but nothing ....

Coincidentally, the key will NOT eject from the ignition and the steering wheel does not lock. Hasnt happened before. Only now that the engine doesnt start.

It is now out of warranty and i took it to a local mechanic. He said there are many 'error codes' on the computer but nothing that can help.

Next try is to replace spark plugs... waiting for them to arrive.

Any help please???

Why are you replacing spark plugs?

Is there a spark at all the plugs?

Do you have fuel, the correct fuel?

Is the fuel pump turning before you engage ignition to prime the system?

Are there any obvious issues looking at the engine bay, loose terminal, pipes etc?

Could be old codes to, better to clear them all and then try to start the car.
After that read it out again.

Thanks for reply. Fuel pump sounds when turning key. So engine is getting fuel. Spark plugs wet from trying to start. So suggested to replace. Still didnt start.

Car has plenty of fuel... more than 3/4 full.

nothing obvious when looking at engine bay. checked terminal, leads and pipes etc. nothing disconnected or problematic.

dont have the codes ... but will get them. according to the mechanic, they are random and some point to steering angle errors others to spark. no luck with clearing and resetting.

Any idea how to fix immobilizer system ? the key buttons arms and disarms alarm ok.

Disconnect the battery for a while , thatís how you reset some cars systems.

OP reports engine turns over so unlikely the starter relay has failed.

Try draining all your fuel. Might be contaminated.

We are having what I believe may be a similar issue with our 2015 Giulietta TCT 1.4 petrol.

We took it out for a good drive yesterday afternoon with no issues at all, but it wouldn't start to get into work this morning. Off to our local auto electrician today if I can get it started. Will not go back to the dealer as they have been useless with their servicing of the vehicle since day one.

Hi all, turns out the problem is with the MultiAir unit... is preventing the valves from opening. Good news is the unit does not need replacing but the oil has either drained from the valve's or it has gunked up. He said this has caused an air lock and needed a complete flush of oil. Put new oil (and replaced filter) seemed to fix the problem. Apparently the mechanic - Vince from AutoModa in Five Dock, Sydney Australia has seen this before.

Also note, he suggested changing the timing belt at 80, 000 kms or 4 years ... dont listen to Alfa if they say 120, 000 kms as the guys at Parramatta Motor Group said to me.

Hope this helps.
