Not so much a Giulia-specific question as one about the current state of the art in automotive paint technology.
I'm considering retiring my beloved 159 and replacing it with a Giulia. I quite like Alfa Red as a colour but am concerned about fading, especially in strong Australian sunlight (although the car will be garaged during the day).
So is anyone in a position to advise whether the current version of Alfa Red would be less susceptible to fading than in days gone by?
these days the colours should not fade. cars are painted with a clear over base system and the clear coat has uv filters to stop sunlight fading the base coat below. of course being in the UK this is not a problem we suffer too much
My current 159 is in Titanio Grey and the clear coat has deteriorated quite a bit, especially on the roof, but for eight years of its life I had a job which required it to be parked outside in the sun all day. Will not be an issue for the next car.
I can’t tell you if it will fade but I can tell you that there’s a chance the paint will rub off onto the boot and door seals like my Alfa Red does...
Pish.
