Verdict is in: Only 1 damaged inlet valve, but we are putting in 12 new ones. And getting the heads skimmed, new valve guides, exhaust valves trimmed and ports cleaned/brushed..

Triple angle valve job? It would be rude not to, while you're in there

Still waiting, but all good comes to those who wait, right?

I am ready to start assembling as soon as the heads are back. In the mean time I found a new alternator in my stock pile, that I forgot that I bought

Total cost of all parts and labour is now 2.000 euros, so I am quite happy that I can do all the manual work myself...

Great stuff

Did you have any problems ordering the new valves? A rather nice-looking 164 24v nearly got broken for spares on here a few months back because the garage couldn't get the valves from anywhere, but luckily it was rescued at the last minute.

No problems, valves are available multiple places.

Guess the early 24v may use different valves to the later 24v, but that's reassuring to know if I do grab a 24v to rebuild sometime

You're on the final run now, and the finishing post is in sight

Just make sure the garage uses the correct cam blocks for timing if you're not planning to do that bit yourself - I don't know if the 3.0 24v is the same, but the 3.2 is very particular about it's timing, and 2 degrees out on one cam can make it run like a 3 legged dog and log all sorts of errors.

Oh dear.. Not for the faint hearted.

This is how far I got, as 5 of the 24 new lifters were the wrong ones

If I am lucky I can get the right ones on monday...

We are using the right cam locks

I'd end up in the oven with the parts if I tried that

Just got hold of some near-immaculate 3.0 24v heads btw, it's a bit too late to be of any use to you now, but drop me a PM if you want a spare set for 'insurance'
