Alfa 159 2.2 JTS -Inlet & exhaust Cam Solenoid Valves

Hi,

I have searched through some threads on this issue but would like some confirmation on this before I go ahead and order some parts.

Issue is this:

I need to replace both -
1. Electro-Valve Inlet Cam Solenoid (Part no: 71773493) and
2. Electro-Valve Exhaust Cam Solenoid (Part No: 71773494).

I can't find any online suppliers in Europe outside of the UK for these parts. The price in the UK is about 73 British Pounds EACH, before shipping.

I found out from this forum that the GM original parts for these 2 items are exactly the same as that for the Alfa 159, 2.2 JTS. From what I can tell, the following parts are the identical parts:
1. Genuine GM Part # 12655420 Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve - Intake
2. Genuine GM Part # 12655421 Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve - Exhaust

These GM parts are only USD 38 each before shipping. So they are much much cheaper.

Can someone who is currently using the GM parts as replacement for the original Alfa parts above, please confirm for me that the parts are indeed identical and that these GM parts work in the Alfa 159 2.2 JTS without any issues?

It would be a disaster if I ordered the parts (I live in Asia) and discovered that they don't fit or work properly after paying and clearing Customs in my country.

Thank you!

CY

12655420 (intake) and 12655421 (exhaust) should work without a problem (according to users from our regional forum).

Are these a service part on the 2.2? At what interval do they need changing?
I can't remember seeing records of them having been changed on my car.
Cheers,

Simon

No these are not a service item on your 2.2 JTS.

They only require changeing if the eingine is not runing correct and they will set off the EML light.
If this did happen i would first remove the solenoid valves, clean them and refit them as this can solve the problem some times.

Search for these numbers on ebay. There are several shops/sellers with GM parts.

I got them here:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/CAMSHAFT-POS...1f27a9&vxp=mtr

I bought the last exhaust solenoid in that store, so you won't see that listed there right now.

You can do a search for other sellers on ebay.

Bit old this thread!
The GM parts work fine, I fitted a pair to my car last year and all has been well since. Cleaning them only seems to be a temporary fix, but at least it helps diagnose what the problem was and isn't a difficult job to do.

I just fitted a set of these at £18.48 for the pair: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Intake-Ex...72.m2749.l2649

They're working fine. Took 8 days to arrive in the UK

I have also replaced mine with those of the GM. For a year now no problem at all..... both of them plus S&H from the USA to Greece , where I live, had the same price as buying only the one from the AR official dealer. The important thing is no problem so far so the money were not wasted.... On the other had my engine is 1.9 jts but i think the basics are the same....
