Cam belt change in the 2.0Jtdm

Hi guys,

I have to change the cambelt of my bella.
What else should I do while doing that?
I am thinking of the water pump and maybe swirl flap removal?

Swirl flaps very seldom cause any issues on the 2.0....the design was much improved by then. A friend who removed them when doing his cambelt says it feels a little flat just off idle since removal....put me off doing mine!

Oh really?! That is nice to know since I was expecting quite the opposite to happen.

So you are saying that belt and pump are going to be enough.

Check condition of your auxiliary drive belt, tensioner and idlers, and also the crank pulley - notorious for failing on the 1.9 and 2.4 variants, I'd be amazed if it's not the same type used on the 2.0.

The removal of swirl flaps will result in a little bit of a flat spot, but on my 2.4, having the EGR blanked off rectified that.

Garage
Top engine mount should be refitted with new Torx bolts (yield type) and nylocks.
I did replace them and will do it again next time service-interval.

.... here in Holland there’s an experience of someone’s Spider that dropped his engine in Italy, shortly after a cambelt change.

I did the one in my Giulietta in an afternoon.

Not massively complicated as far as cambelts go.
