Hi I'm new here and looking to find the right spec of 159 to purchase.
I know I want a 2.4 jtdm but the question comes down to trim / gearbox combo.
I see Tis for sale and Q Tronics but never together. The Q Tronic always seems to be in the Lusso spec. Coming from an automatic Audi A4 and now driving a manual Audi A3, I definitely miss the auto. Does the combo exist since the Ti is obviously much more desirable spec wise.
Otherwise, is there anything that can't be retrofitted from a Ti onto a Lusso? The alternative could be to buy a scrap Ti in the future and transplant everything onto the Lusso as obviously, I can't change the gearbox from manual to auto.
You’ll be waiting a while for one to show up. Sounds like the auto box is of more importance to you, if you really like the Ti look you could always buy a set of alloys down the line, even the skirts and and mirror caps if you’re really keen.
Yeah, I think the auto is a priority so it'll probably have to be a TI retrofit. At least it's not like an s-line Audi where I have to replace all the bumpers and stuff. 90% of the TI's visual appeal is the wheels and mirrors IMO.
Slightly off topic, is there anything in the interior that will be hard to retrofit? Memory seats, split folding seats, dials, etc? I'm not really bothered about the black headlining.
According to the very inaccurate source that is "How Many Left".com there are only 13 of those left in use. You will have to be very lucky to find someone who ready to sell....but it happens.
I do like the sportwagon but there's just something about the saloon that I like. I think if I was going for an estate, I'd be looking at the (don't shoot me) Audi A4 B7 3.0 TDI Avant. But I fancy a break from Audis. I was driving the other day in my A3 and had an Audi in front of me, behind me and to the side of me. I was thinking, "where are all the Fords?" So I want some exclusivity, or something to justify the 'premium' badge. My A4 was fine since they were less common than the A3 (in comparison), was built extremely well and wasn't based on a Skoda Octavia.
Yeah I'd appreciate it. But I must stress that I'm on a budget. I won't have too much free cash to put towards it over selling my 2006 Audi A3 with 150k on the clock. So I'm probably looking in the £1500 - £2500 range depending on condition and spec.
I seen a very tidy Lusso QT 2.4 on an eBay auction that no one bid on at £1700. With 100k on the clock, it seemed a lot of car. I'm thinking the most cost effective way to get the car I want is going to be to buy a lusso with the correct engine and box and then find a scrap TI on the internet. If I can get a good fully working 159 for under 2k then I should be able to get a scrap 1.9 TI for less than 1k. At least in time, if I have 3k invested in the car I want, specced up how I want then I think that's a pretty good deal. I'm not bothered if it say TI or Lusso on the log book.
At least, as I said earlier, all the bumpers and stuff are the same, so it doesn't really matter what colour the scrap car will be as I'd only have to paint the side skirts and everything else should hopefully bolt on.
I've had a look, but can't find much recent posts, but what's the reliability of the Q-Tronic like? I take it as a good sign that there's not much posted about it since they must all be working. No DMF and clutch issues will be welcome too because, obviously, I'd be remapping the 2.4

I went to look there at a supposed 'very good, clean' 156 sw some years ago and almost went away within 10 seconds of getting there. No idea how honest they are to deal with, but we clearly had different ideas of what a good, clean car was. They seemed decent enough though ... but don't go with too high expecations if my (one-off) experience is anything to go by. When looking for a good example of rare car, you have to look at anything that comes up nationally, be prepared to travel and be disappointed. The right car could be anywhere and you just have to go look.
Just seen a couple for spares or repair on ebay. One has a blown turbo but it's a 2.4 Auto. Do you know how hard/costly it is to replace?
The other is a 2.4 manual with a flywheel noise. Not that I want a manual but if it ends up going dirt cheap then it's worth considering. Again, what's the cost involved with that (since I'd probably be replacing the clutch at that point too.)?

Differenceis probably
exterior
19" Ti wheels - you can retrofit them
side skirts - you can retrofit them
side mirror covers - you can retrofit them
lower suspension, approx 3cm "special" Eibach springs - you can find much cheaper Eibach springs up to 6cm lowering your car... so yes, a bit of work but can be retrofited without a problem
window tint - not sure it is standard Ti but, fronts are on mine approx 25%, rears are approx 45%
interior
Ti sits - you can retrofit them (mine are full electric with heating)
Ti instument cluster - you can retrofit it
Ti central console covers - you can retrofit it/or wrap it for cheaper
Ti steering wheel - you can retrofit it (mine is with shifting paddles)
Ti darker roof trim - it is a lot of work, but you can retrofit that too...
So all in all... you can get standard SW and do all these modifications, but they are not cheap...
