Spider or full driveshaft?

So now the mot is done it's on to a few things I'd like to attend to.

I need to sort the passenger side drive shaft. I can get a full new shaft for £80 or a new inner joint spider for much less.

Unsure which to go for. Can anyone offer any advice on what is best and what the chances are of the cup being reusable?

If you're getting the opposite side to the one linked in the other thread, and you get 2 year's warranty - I'd go for the full drive shaft - nowt worse than having to do a job twice!

Full shaft, no question.
Don't know on your prices. Dealership replaced my spiders last year, cost 4 euro's less (per side) than a full (refurbished) shaft, but they wouldn't replace the full shaft.
The original issue wasn't solved, and it still wrecks my brains to this day that maybe the outside joints are a little knackered.
Went back a few months ago they said: the inside spiders look great! if the outside joints are knackered, that's not covered by warranty since we haven't repaired those.

Thanks. Shaft is £80 delivered. A spider I can get for around £20.

Is it just a spider or also the cup? the cups are pricey. I'd recommend changing the spider and the cup both, ans they both wear.
If it's including the cups, go for that, since it is so much cheaper. The cups are much more expensive than the spiders.
If it's not including the cups, get the shafts (assuming they are including the cups), since the spiders and the cups will cost you.

The spider is just that the spider. If I was going to replace the cup too then it makes sense to just replace the full shaft.

Looks like the full shaft is the way to go.

Before you do, I had a quick look at the same parts for my car on eBay - came up with results from J&R - is this the same company you got yours from? pics looked the same.

I thought I'd do a bit of sleuthing and have found less than glowing reports on their website - granted most people are going to complain when things go wrong, but a few comments about poor customer service on failures.

Makes me think that on such a critical part, I'd be leaning towards parts from a known manufacturer - but that's just me!

Posting from my phone - excuse spelling mistakes

Yes that's the supplier. The quality looked OK and they give a two year warranty when most only give one year. My local factors quoted me over double the price which I'm afraid I just can't afford.

I'm sure someone else had fitted some on here and had done 5000 trouble free miles so far...

That's fair, I just thought I'd mention it - there are some good reviews but largely negatives - not that that means a lot as mentioned.

Hope they do the job for you anyway

The originals aren't the best either, so you might just as well save half.
The dealer replaced both spiders and cups on my TI, Cost 1100 euro's. It was covered by warranty, thank god.

Hope they used platina, much harder. They might last 100kkm ;-)
An other shop quoted 440 per shaft for a full shaft. But warranty required it to be done at the dealers.
Maybe the TI ones are more expensive? I have no idea..
