My Brera 3.2 failed its MOT yesterday, any advice?

Evening chaps, haven't been on here for a good while but the car's failed its MOT and I may need some advice for best repair.

So the fails....

Front Exhaust emissions likely to be affected by an exhaust leak flexi blowing (8.2.1.1 (b))

Exhaust carbon monoxide content after 2nd fast idle exceeds default limits (8.2.1.2 (b))

Offside Rear Service brake excessively binding caliper seized cable not fully returning (1.2.1 (f))

and the advisory...

lambda sensor cable wearing on prop shaft

So the garage have told me the front flexi requires replacement as its blowing, fair enough, also it failed the emmisions test, 0.5% Carbon monoxide... acceptable limit is 0.2%

Garage are saying its a faulty Cat converter, would anyone here disagree with that statement? If they do agree with it whats the best option for a replacement... I don't want to be spending buckets of cash. There are 4 CATs on these, It going to be a guessing game trying to replace the right one isnt it?!

Any advice is very welcome,

Thanks all

What I need to know really is:

Will a faulty Lambda give me the carbon monoxide problem? Or is this defiantly a CAT issue?

I think you may just have a faulty lambda probe. Id change it, and have a universal flex welded in - on, I assume the front pipe, then resit the car for its MOT.

A faulty exhaust, or 02 sensor will mess with the emissions..
These cars chuck out lots of C02 as it is with a good exhaust
Plus, Id hazard a guess a faulty cat would show an EML light..
Even a 02 sensor would.
Does the engine light flicker on and off?

What Clay is saying, first make sure there exists no leaks before the O2 sensor as it can influence readings badly.
If still not OK check wiring and only after that I would replace the sensor for an original (!) one. Either AR or Bosch made.

Good luck!

Most definitely Leo.
02 sensors are not cheap. 15 I paid for my flex weld years ago from a tyre and exhaust centre. Im sure it was 25 all in..
Check the wiring on the sensor and secure it as necessary.
Ive never experienced a cat failure, even on really old cars..

If you have an exhaust leak upstream of a lambda sensor then it will pick up the air that is drawn into the exhaust between exhaust pulses and then richen the mixture to try to use it up, ie over richen the mixture which will give you a high co reading, it will also cause very bad fuel consumption.

I would try fixing the exhaust blow and then giving it a good run to get the cat really hot, unless its broken up or you've used leaded fuel there's not much thatcan go wrong with a cat

Thank you all, think I may have the flex and lambda changed. Then retest.

Thanks for the advice.

Yeah I have had EML for O2 sensor bank 1 sensor 2

I read the fault codes which included bits about O2 sensors and the car running rich.

It seems the blowing flex and the lambda could be the culprits here and the CAT's are fine which is good news!

Think I fancy a Merc C class, maybe a 350CDI

Anyone interested in a 3.2 Brera all the good bits done, paintwork isn't greatest.
