there goes my 2 days off

drove the 5 miles home from work last night car was running lovely in the cold air, on arrival at home i got out to be greeted with the smell of burning rubber and smoke pouring out from under the bonnet. pulled the bonnet release in the footwell which promptly broke away in my hand. with the limited light of my phone i managed to see the smoke was coming from the offside of the car. felt the aux belt which was hot to the touch so i surmise its something jammed up be it the tensioner, idler or maybe the aircon pump. ordered the belt, tensioner, idler and both parts of the release handle which will be here tomorrow. today will be spent removing it all with my fingers crossed that the aircon pump is ok.

When i bought my current 159 the idle pulley had got hot resulting in the plastic melting and the back half of the idler had sheared off at a 45 degree angle and the belt rubbing on the engine ....

At least you've got to the bottom of the issue - don't envy you with that stretch belt - it'a right b*stard

Crikey, you've really had that apart! I did all mine through the drivers wing.

You need to remove most of the compressor bolts and leave one in which you can use as a pivot, get the belt over the pulleys and use a jack with apiece if wood or similar to jack up the compressor until you can get a bolt in to fix it in place.
