My Alfa 159 modifications thread

Hi, now I have got most of the major essential jobs out of the way I've started doing a few little modifications to make my 159 a little more individual...

I thought I'd start a thread and just add to it as things get done.

Today's job was to smarten up the centre consul area. It was the standard silver finish but was worn away in some areas particularly near stop start button.

Pictures speak louder than words so see below....

Is that a film wrap in wood effect?
Not to my taste but certainly different!

It's from eBay. Self adhesive many finishes available I chose Dark walnut although I did expect it to be a bit darker. The fit is pretty good although not quite perfect. The cut out for the radio and climate control is very slightly too low on the bottom edges.

Post the link, wouldn't mind having a look? So it's pre-cut??

How are the edges finished off around these areas - Could you post a close up photo?

The gaps are pretty tight. It's really just under the radio and climate control where you see a bit of the original silver. The seller is really helpful I'm sure if I contacted him he could modify the kit a bit to make these areas better in future kits. Mine shows it a bit more as mine was worn in these areas and quite scuffed.

Hi mate,
I've just emailed him for a Brera kit but from what I've seen they don't do the door strips?
Hopefully he may consider making a Brera full kit?
You need to let him know that the cut out areas need tightening up for when I order mine!!

I quite like the idea of that in Carbon Fiber as I am slowly doing the outside trim of my car in carbon fiber as well!

Agree, I would go for the carbon fibre - if I get a reply off him I'm going for this, would be a nice mod

Very nice. However I think a nice shiny alloy gear knob would improve it even more. You can buy one from me

I saw your gear knob post. Nice job but not for me I'm afraid. I've taken quite a liking to the standard one now it's no longer rattling.

I quite liked the standard one too - that is until the leather split. I was not willing to pay the £85 +VAT for a genuine new one.

@Topic & jtaylor2005:

For £55 inc UK P&P you can have one. (also fits GT, _The_Editor_ on here bought one recently ).

There's a genuine new one on eBay at the moment. Thought about buying it but funds won't run to non essential items at the moment.

Might have sold can't see it any more. There is someone in Poland selling them on £21 but I think they're aftermarket ones.

The carbon looky likey on the ebay page is awful, looks really crap*. For the cost, why not buy a roll of decent 3m Carbonn vinyl and cover all of the bits you need for a fraction of the price? - All you need is a craft knife and a hairdryer....

*My fault for spending a lot of time with the real stuff

I have thought about this but it's getting the right wrap that will also fold neatly into the gauge pockets without creasing?
Dipping is the best option but there is nowhere local that do this, there is also a difference between being machine cut and a craft knife - Never looks as good?
I think this is a good idea that others should take up so we have a bit of competition?

You can buy the chrome ring set for the dials and vents for little money, I put these on years ago and it just lifted the dash, not to everyone's taste but everyone comments on them.
Sorry no links, might have a pic somewhere but I struggle posting pics here

Turns out my problem with the fit of the kit around the climate control was more to do with my fitting. The strip along the bottom is quite thin and by edging it up a bit it looks much better.

If I was fitting it again I would paint the areas around the stereo and climate control satin black before fitting the kit as this would have given me a better edge. If you have a trim that's in good condition then it probably won't be a problem for you.
