Thermostat!

Planning to change mine....does any one recommend removing anything to access stat? Is it possible to 'collect' used antifreeze and re-use as only year old?

Apart from jubilee clips anything else required?

Hours job?
Thanks,Sol.

You'll need to remove battery and tray, bout it really.

You can collect it, ye. Most of it anyway so you will need SOME.

Took me roughly 2 hrs taking it steady - spent most of the time getting the old hose clips off

+1 on the original clips are awkward !
Is their a specialist tool and is it cheaper than new clips .
Unplug the airflow sensor and remove/move inlet pipe if it is in the way .

If its the crimp-type ones, they're called clic-r clips and there is a special tool, you can sometimes get them off with a pair of sidecutters, but it's a fiddly job

I changed the thermostat on my GT 1.9 jtd at the weekend. i found that getting the orginal jubilee clips off a bit of a pain. ended up snapping and cutting the clips off, then buying some new better quailty ones.

As for access, all i took off was the engine cover and the battery, NOT the battery tray. from my view, you have plently of room to work without the need to take the tray out.

to drain the system, i took the bottom hose off the radiater, and just drained it all into a bucket. so id say you could quite easily re use the coolant providing you dont miss the bucket
