Alfa 147 electric windows not working!

Hi everyone,

I have kind of a problem here, I’m a dutch alfa 147 owner (for about a month now), and I bought the car with the windows not working...
I thought this was going to be an easy fix, but suprise... it’s a complete mystery why they aren’t working!
I already tried replacing the switch inside the drivers door, but this hasn’t changed anything (100% sure the module itself is okay)
Checked all fuses, nothing broken there.
The weirdest part is: the mirror control works as long as *both* doors are completely closed. If one of the doors is open or not closed properly the lighting in the control module turns off... (but it does give a beep on the dash, meaning some sort of signal is coming trough)

I really hope someone can help me with this, otherwise (I don’t believe I’m actually saying this) I might have to start thinking about selling the car again...

Any ideas and/or suggestions are hugely appreciated, so please throw in your thoughts!

All windows and mirrors both sides are controlled via the control box in the drivers door, so this is the first thing I would suspect....
Also: Is the odometer display blinking ? If so, this would indicate a problem with a can node device, such as the window controller ....

Also, as you're Dutch, have a look here :

Thanks for the tip!

I know it sounds like the control box inside the drivers door is just bad, but I replaced it with a couple of other ones of which I’m completely sure were working, and all gave the exact same result...
Yes, the odometer is blinking...
I have been to an alfa romeo dealer to ask if they could reset this for me, but refused to do so as it wouldn’t solve anything: the windows should be operating just fine without the proxy alignment (?)
The only other thing is: an aftermarket radio had been installed (jvc), which is probably the cause of the odometer blinking, but I’m not sure if the window control box not working could be linked to this?

Can you drive the motor with a direct power supply? Maybe you need a new motor and mechanism.

..
If a new controller is installed, a proxy alignment should be done to make this known to the bodycomputer as it's a CAN node, with a different serial number. Without it might not function correctly.
So I would suggest getting a proxy alignment done, just to be sure. It should only take 10 minutes or so, it's a command via the OBD port.

Dealer should be able to do this with their Witech computer, you (or someone else with mes ) can also do this using the MES software. Very helpfull tool for faultfinding and testing

Okay, so I got the problem sorted 🙂

The previous owner installed a custom sound system with subwoofer, and in the process he disconnected a connector leading to the driver door, but never reconnected it afterward! This resulted in the the entire door electronics to lack the sufficient amount of power...
After reconnecting this connector all problems were fixed, thankfully!
Thank you all for the help, I really appreciate it!

I will do the proxy alignment myself some time next week, just to be sure, because I want to make sure the car is in good shape.

The motors and regulators are practically new btw, and they indeed did not fail.
(Probably previous owner had also been struggling with this problem, but never figured out what he forgot &#x1f61d

(And there’s no way I’m selling her now haha)

Thanks for the tip on the software though!!
Do you have any recommendation on a usb to obd2 connector to use with this software?

Glad to be of help, and glad you got it sorted....
re Assen I guess you mean Viva Italia ? I don't think I will be there...

Re MES, you can get cheap elm327 adapters, however, it's a bit hit or miss. Some of the Chinese Elm's don't work very well. There are also shops that sell sets guaranteed to work, example :

https://www.gendan.co.uk/product_FESPKG.html

https://www.autowolf.nl/nl/search?co...s=multiecuscan

etc.

If you're wiling to spend more money, you can also get the multiplexed MES version directly from the MES site. This comes with a multiplex interface eliminating the need for extra adapter cables.....
