Hi all, I recently bought a gt, the two top arms are now knocking and I need to replace them, any recommendations as to the brand best to purchase I want them to last, thanks
Also if ti hasnt been done fit the bolts backwards so fitting the arms becomes doable on the car next time without removing the top mounting from the car
I fit the top wishbone bolts the right way round. I've seen the bolt foul the spring when fitted the other way. Yes, it could be spaced with washers but having to take it apart every so often means nothing seizes up.
It's both bushes and ball joints, rhf is worse then the left, I received my 2 new shiny arms in the post Friday so waiting for a dry day to fit them, again thanks for all the advise really appreciate it
Just remember the pinch bolt for the fork between damper and lower arm can seize and make things really awkward.
I keep M12 x 65 bolts with nylocks just in case I need to cut the old bolt up to remove it.
No need to touch to pinch bolt if just doing the top arms. Only the long bolt in the lower arm needs removing in order to drop the damper assembly and fork down enough to get the top arm bracket out.
I just bought a pair of TRW upper wishbones on EBay at approx £33 each. Arrived yesterday, I cannot copy and paste easily but here is the item number
291073103608 for one of them. Bought TRW drop links too for £16/pair. Hope they are genuine but at that price point they don’t actually have to be premium! Time will tell ...
Edit: If I’d followed the links in post above, I wouldn’t have needed this post !
Correct. It's only the bottom wishbone fork bolt that needs the weight of the car to avoid stressing the bushes.
