Alliance & Leicester

Anyone used them on here, any good? They're coming in the cheapest for me on confused.com at 544

Just got my renewal through from Adrian Flux which made me laugh out loud - up to 826 from 510 last year needless to say i've told them to go forth and ***** themselves. I've been looking for an excuse to ditch Flux anyway - their customer service is an absolute shambles, they addressed my renewal documents to my wife (data protection act, anyone?) tried to charge 25 for insuring a 1.2 Punto courtesy car for a day, and now decide my premium is going up by 62% just because i made a claim last year even though I had protected NCD

I've been with them for 2 years and they've been pretty poor from start to finish tbh. If I was Ian I'd think very carefully about whether he wants AO to be associated with such a company

Of course the premium is going up you've made a claim...protected NCD of not. You still get the 65% (?) discount but you have to remember that the base quote (before the NCD discount) will have increased due to said claim.

It's amazing how many people don't realise how insurance works.

Re: Alliance & Leicester

I have to add that £500+ for a 2l for someone in their mid-30's is pretty high.

of course i realise that matt, but 62%???

i'm 36, clean licence, 6 years NCD, in a sedate job, average mileage, car kept on drive and it's an affluent area (albeit on the outskirts of crime city). £500 is indeed a lot, but £826 is just taking the p*ss

Re: Alliance & Leicester

Hey Al, would you like me to tell you how much my insurance on the GTA is? (Tip: you really don't)

Give privilege a try, no guaranteeing they'll be good for you, but they've given me competitive quotes the last three years, and their customer service has been excellent too (including giving Mrs Bazza 5 years NCD from the start because I already had a policy with them)

got a quote from them which was quite good actually, but still nearly £600 when i compared like for like with A&L. gonna try chris knott tomorrow and see what they can come up with.

anyway, go on - tell me what you pay on the gta. i'd move to cheshire tomorrow were it not for mrs al's roots being up here. maybe if i can show her how much money we'd save she might consider it

Try Chris Knott. They were cheapest by far. Ask for Kim, tell her you are a Forum member.

Is Barnstaple really that bad? All I know is I keep getting lost since they shoved a few new roads and bridges around there...

Re: Alliance & Leicester

My father in law is having a pretty bad time claiming off Saga, so I'm not enamoured. I also have my Yacht insured with Saga. First they insisted I had a survey...so I had a survey...250..then when I said I've got the survey you asked for they said...oh we don't need a survey...idiots!!!

As others have said, Try Chris Knott. They have done nicely for us on the Kia Sorento and the Alfa Sproutwagon. They are still small enough for you to feel you are dealing with a human being...who is listening.

We had a claim on the Sorento this year (Gatepost leapt out at Mrs A.) We told CK about it and it made not one jot of difference.

Re: Alliance & Leicester

flux came back to me today - apparently they had miscalculated* the premium and have now offered me £575 instead of £826

*miscalculated = insurance company speak for "we tried to rip you off and failed, so have now come back with a mouthful of humble pie"

anyway i rung them this morning and i managed to get them to knock it down again to £535. i'll wait 'til i get that in writing and then ring them up and tell them i want a further discount as i'm an AO-er if they won't play ball then they can go whistle

they still keep sending me everything in my wife's name though, despite me telling them she is not the policyholder, vehicle keeper ,or even the main driver

Re: Alliance & Leicester

Al, try Norwich Union Direct (online quote). They have been cheap for me, very good service, and premiums don't seem to automatically go up after you've been with them a year . I got a 4 week driving ban 10 days before my renewal. I told them of course, and my premium went DOWN a bit (I was still building up No Claims). The following year, went down again, so no fluke.
