shop around Gavin. No disrespect but AF won't always work for everyone. If you do get a quote it won't be cheap tho!

Ring around, no doubt you'll get insurance at 18 but you might have to pay a bit for it.. Its a shame but its the same for all of us, I was in the same boat as you 3 years ago, had to wait til I'd just turned 19 to be able to afford my car, even tho I passed only a few months after my 17th..

I used Tesco's a few years back, they were cheap for me at the time, but now with directline as it was cheaper at my age bracket

Re: I have to be 19 to evan get a quote

One way of getting round age restrictions is to go with specialist insurance, one of my mates was driving around in a V8 Pontian Trans Am Firebord when he was 22 because he insured it as a classic under a limited mileage policy.

Worth a try

Also worth a try getting yourself on as a named driver who acquires bonus on a relatives insurance for your car. There's always a way. Good luck mate.

Yeah, try Confused.com mate, I always try them out. I'm with Admiral now and they insure me on absolutely ANYTHING.

I have been quoted for a BMW 750iL (5.4 V12 with 326BHP) and a Jaguar XJS 5.3 V12. Both of which only required a few hundred quid extra to get insured on. And I was 20 at the time.

Gav, you just need to shop around, mate.

Every year I do the insurance thing and I generally only use three websites;
www.confused.com
www.insuresupermarket.com
and www.gocompare.com

All three should just about cover you for the major insurers. The next step will be brokers, but that means a lot of ringing around.

Good luck.

Re: I have to be 19 to evan get a quote

Try www.bell.co.uk.
They were pretty cheap for me on my 33, and you can be insured on any other car third party for about £40.
Also put your mum n dad on as named drivers, my dad dropped it by 300 n my sis whos 22 dropped it by 100.

Re: I have to be 19 to evan get a quote

Definitely takes some shopping around, I was about 20 when I had a 2.0 alfa 75 and would get different excuses like, age, insurance group and engine size.

I would expect a 1.4 corsa sport to still be fairly high though to be honest purely down to the boy racer image. Whatever you get though, do try and insure it in your name and build some no claims for when you do get an alfa on the road.

Re: I have to be 19 to evan get a quote

Gavin, mate, I'm sure someone would insure you on the 145. I was insured on a 2 Litre Mondeo at 18 and that had 150BHP.

Which was MORE than adequate at that age!

I'm 21 now and have owned a V6 Mondeo ST24, a 156 V6 and now on my third V6 in the form of a Mitsy Galant. All of which were big 2.5's.

So I can't see how you can't get insured.

You don't have to drive around in a 1.4 just because you're 'young' as they say, I haven't driven anything under a 2.0i Litre since passing my test.

Corsa 1.4 will still be expensive.

My fully-comp policy on an X-reg Mazda 323F 1.5 was 380 cheaper than a V-reg Corsa 1.2 16V GSI.. The high crash incidence of Corsa's puts their premiums up, even though they are a low insurance group.

Even if you are getting something like that for a year, don't buy a Corsa.. They are terrible cars for enthusiastic driving. What about a Punto or a cheap Brava? They might not have more power but certainly have a sprinkle of the flair Alfa's have in bucketloads.

Showing my age, but I had a Vauxhall Nova 1.2 when I was 20 and they charged me 860.00 and that's 15 years ago.
