Re: Not Happy At All.....

I give you my condolences Mr.Orange.: Even Saga stick the price up, but at least if you give them evidence of a cheaper quote, they do it below that!:

Re: Not Happy At All.....

Please bear in mind the lowest price may not be the best if you ever have to claim.

I am with Norwich Union - at renewal I could have got it for £55 less by changing. I didn't bother.

Someone ran into the back of my GTV 3 weeks ago. 1/2 hour and 1 'phone call later my car was taken away for repair, a replacement was delivered (k so it was a Mondeo but at least a 1.8 with aircon) and my excess was sorted out - one telephone call sorted everything out. I now have my car back all sorted and at no cost to me.

It is worth considering - price 'aint all.

Paul.

swiftcover are cheap but I've heard the package and service aint too good if you actually need to use the cover.

in my considerable experience (I've had about 10-15 crashes, lots my fault some not) Axa were by far and away the best insurer for actually doing things once you've had a crash.

So its your fault then

Move from Newton Aycliffe so somewhere a bit posher like Piercebridge and claim you are royalty

Seriously though, get requoting and you can probably knock it down a bit.

Re: Not Happy At All.....

Mr O, same thing happened to me mate with The RAC, they put mine up by £200 for no reason and said this had happened because there wasn't much different between 1 Years NCB and 2 Years NCB, when I asked as to why it had gone up though, the young lady said she didn't really know, lol.

I'm with Admiral now and they've done me a SCORCHING deal, at 21 being insured on a 156 V6 with my fiancee thrown in as well (Who has been driving for 4 months and is 19) I am paying around the £600 marker.

Try Churchill as well bud as they gave me a good quote but not as good, not sure if Admiral are only good with young drivers though. Give them a try though as they sorted me right out.

Good luck,
Darren

Re: Not Happy At All.....

Unfortunately this is common practice within the insurance market. Basically, most companies measure their success (and compare how well they are doing against each other) by the amount of new business written (i.e. new customers aquired).

This creates a ludicrous market dynamic whereby they offer stunning discounts to new customers to boost their sales figures. New customers cost much more to aquire (advertising, new business processing, setting up payment etc.) so their profit margin is reduced.

To cover this they tend to charge existing customers more at renewal (trusting to customer apathy that they won't shop around). Given that renewing a customer is much cheaper for them then aquiring a new customer (just a renewal letter as the payment method already set up, computer system automatically renews unless told not to) the margin is higher for this business anyway so hiking the price is just taking the pish.

I currently switch each year between Elephant and Admiral. They are both in the same insurance group and use pretty much the same rates and underwriting approach. Renewal quote from Elephant is £500, Admiral new customer quote £350. Next year Admiral renewal quote gone up to £500 despite another a year of no claims but Elephant now offer me insurance for £350 as I am a new customer again. Abssolutely insane business model but there you go. Just means you have to swap insurance provider every year to avoid a fleecing.

Re: Not Happy At All.....

I had the same problem with dirty thieving so and so's directline. Went to swiftcover (no, im not advertising) but they came in at £290 all in for my 2.0 147. That was as opposed to £420. I didn't take the extras like car rental etc, but for a car that does around 8k a year. I found that if you jiggle your mileage instead of using the average 12-15, it works out better. I'm not paying for mileage i wont use.

Re: Not Happy At All.....

Monty - you are 100% correct, but you will never get an insurance company to admit it.

£186, fully comp, protected, £200 excess with Admiral. But I am 40, with 23 yrs NCB!!!!!

Re: Not Happy At All.....

I'm in the middle of quote finding as well Mr O, my renewal with ecar was £450but the cheapest is Hastings by far at £325 or £350 with no voluntary xs, fully comp, protected no claims. ecar has been the cheapest for the last 2 years, & you also get free breakdown, but since I swapped for the new GT (free AA cover) from a 156 I don't need it.

Re: Not Happy At All.....

I phoned RAC up yesterday and asked them to give me a better quote. They came back with 375 quid which is a bit better than thier original quote but still not good enough, they also chucked in some breakdown cover which was nice of them .
