Insurance rip off's!

Don't insurance companies make your blood boil? My wife's is due for renewal, got the price from her existing company, Express for over 500. This is fully comp on a 2.0 147 Lusso with 5 yrs NCB. Did the usual hunting around, various comparision sites, Adrian Flux etc etc. Cheapest comparable was Sheila's Wheels at 305. So called Express, told them she'd had a cheaper quote, they checked a few details and said they were unlikely to match it but would check. Hour or so later they called back and quote is now 290!!!!!! And 40 of that is brokers fee's

Why on earth couldn't they have given their best quote in the renewal? Feel like going with Sheila's Wheels out of principle for Express trying to rip us off over 200!

Rant over, blood pressure returning to normal!

Re: Insurance rip off's!

Will probably stay with them to be honest, my wife has been insured with them for years. They have been competitive before when I've checked prices.

Just makes you think how much easy money these insurance companies make from people to busy, lazy or unknowing to shop around!

Re: Insurance rip off's!

Had same thing with tyres a while back, Kwick-fit quoted me £180 PER TYRE!!! and then said if i get a cheeper quote they would match it.****** that, had already been quoted £40 per tyre cheeper at most other places. If they cant do better than that in the first place sod em.Also i have noticed with insurance companies, they always ask you what the best price you have had so far and then come in a couple of quid cheeper AF did exactly that, although it was for a modded policey and they are helpfull Thanks AF.

Re: Insurance rip off's!

Sorry mate, can't feel toomuch sympathy. As i'm young, quotes for me vary from a lowest (yes, LOWEST!) of £950 all the way up to £5000!!!!! (Thats more then the value of the car!!)

Just to add salt to the wound, the vast majority of 'cheap' companies declare me as uninsurable.

God I hate being 23 with no no-claims bonus.

Hi Colin,

I'm not after sympathy! Was just highlighting what a rip off insrance can be and that everyone needs to shop around.

We were all young once, I got hit with high premiums when I got my first car (an Escort RS Mexico) which I then crashed 4 days after I got it. So I understand all about the problems of insurance when you're young.

I also heard about a young guy where I work, he has a honda s200, his premium's are over 4000!!!

Re: Insurance rip off's!

my insurance is up for renewal this month, current insurer offered me a renewal of double last years price of 1150! Why would i pay over 2k to insure my car when privilege have already quoted me under 700 quid. Bloody joke some prices these companies come up with. By the way i'm 21, 4 years ncd, 3 points, one wrote off car... Got my advanced driving licence so i guess that helps a little.

Try getting an advanced driving licence with the IAM like marko. It does help.
Cheers

Man, with these types of insurance costs, are we surprised that a number of cars with theft insurance get, er, "kind of stolen"... if you see what I mean.

Is that Express Insurance Group? I used them for many years as no one could beat them on price. But you'd best hope you don't need to use them, there's a good reason they're cheap.

Yes Badger, it is Express and I hope we never have to use them too!

The policy is with a reputable company, equity red star. I was insured with them years ago and they dealt with a claim fine.

Re: Insurance rip off's!

Insurance companies are without doubt the biggest bunch of cunning crooks out! I had a fatal accident on the M25 last year and still haven't received a single penny from them yet as they just informed me that they have only just received the report from the police, a blatant lie as I phoned surrey police and was informed that the report was sent to them at the end of March! 10 months waiting with a mangled but repairable car in the garage waiting to get fixed! I will have them for lunch if they don't snap finger soon! Bunch of devious, dishonest, legal crooks! They're good when it's to receive payment from you! Makes my blood boil!

Re: Insurance rip off's!

I always check the insurer's on-line thing before renewal time. The renewal quote they send in the post is always higher.. so I let the policy lapse and then renew it on-line, as if I was a new punter.

Re: Insurance rip off's!

It's unbeleivable and above all unhuman that you have to wait for so long to sort claims out! What's the point in having an insurance if they can't sort out issues of the very nature we pay for? Crooks!

i worked breifly for a claims handler and make sure they pay out for the depreciation of the car, cost of storage and price of hire car aswell, always found they sorted things out quicker when it was costing them money to delay settlement

Re: Insurance rip off's!

I'm currently with Admiral. They quote me £447 initally for renewing with them. Checked on various sites as well as confused.com. Cheapest quote I had was £425 with Elephant.co.uk. Called Admiral back and they gave me a loyalty discount and reduced the premium to £411 so that's a result. Most expensive quote was from Norwich Union of £1377 approx!!!! I feel like calling them up and saying that they didn't "quote me happy"!!!
