Not Happy Its that time of year again

Car insurance renewal.

Last year I was paying way under £500 for my GTV 3.0 V6 which wasn't too bad. 6 years NCB, no driving convictions, no accidents in the last god knows how many years.

So I get my renewal through for this year, £1147

How can it be, with no accidents in the last year and no driving convictions either and with an extra years NCB that my insurance has almost tripled? Time to do some serious shopping around me thinks

Bloody hell.
I had something similar, found it was best to start again with the same company rather than roll it over.
Had my first reminder a few days ago. It's due end of February

I got a 95hp MiTo, I've got loads of years No Claims, no points or anything but my insurance still went up 40%

You need to shop around Gaz, more than doubling your premium tells me they don't want your business anymore. Time for the comparison sites then hit the phones, it takes a couple of tedious hours but it should be worth it

Insurance for my punto. £250 last year. £330 this year.

Insurance for the alfa, up about 30%.

Bloody joke. I imagine there will be a sharp increase in the number of uninsured drivers this year!

Hateful, hateful, repetetive business. 50 mins typing the same old ****e into every bloody website available. Managed to get it down to £850

Another question, when did it become more expensive to have TPFT rather than Fully comp?

I pity younger drivers in this day and age. They will never be able to get on the road at this rate

I'm doing the same thing at the moment Gaz, and getting thoroughly pi$$ed off in the process. One thing I am finding is that adding another driver makes it cheaper

I've always found Admiral to be the most competitive for the GTA, and now I have a multicar policy to cover the Ford too.
If you haven't tried them yet, give them a go Gaz.

I've got a multicar policy with Admiral too, Mymate GT and Focus.......£750 for both

Have you tried the old adding an older relative to the policy trick, Gaz?

This sounds familiar Gaz...

Exactly the same. Last year I paid ~£500 fully comp for the GTV. This year my renewal came through, £1200, I rang up to see why it had increased so much and asked if there was anything I could do to reduce the premium. Direct Line more or less laughed. The guy on the phone was really rude and told me I was 'high risk' (er, 9 years no claims bonus!? How is that high risk!?).

Shopped around, have ended up with Adrian Flux for £800.

HOWEVER, when I took the policy out, I'm sure one of the selling points was that I would be able to add another vehicle to it. I've just rung up to try and do this and 'yes, we'll mirror your ncb but it'll still cost you £530 for a 1.6 MX5 worth pennies'. Grrrrrrrr Stupid Adrian Flux!! I won't be renewing with them.

Its all a load of bollicks aint it Ann. Much calming sent your way, especially after Daisy's latest wound

An update to this anyway. Done some shopping around and of the online quotes, Admiral came out the cheapest at £850 give or take a few pence. Very kindly (or is it cold calling?) they called me back on Wednesday evening to discuss my policy quotation. After the usual blah blah it came down to the finance part of the deal. Based on it being £850, if you pay monthly it will be £78 per month for 12 months. However if you want to pay it all in one go, we can do you a special price of £598! I really dont think anyone who works in insurance centres passed an 11+ maths exam

Still shopping around, im sure I can get it somewhere near the sub £500 i paid last year if im cheeky enough.

Try taking your internet quote to Chris Knott, they promised to beat my lowest by 10% and did, fully comp was cheaper than TPF&T—lower risk and windscreen cover ;-)

go old school and visit your local insurance brokers. take whaterver internet quotes you get along as the smaller companies will usually beat the quotes hoping for word of mouth business

Yes add a woman, my insurance is cheaper with the wife on it because they assume that she will be driving some of the time and is therefore less risk.

Mine is BB2 although i believe BB1 codes are 'high risk' because of the Crash for cash scam. Just happens to be organised and 'performed' in BB1 codes.

I think i might give up driving

Compare the market confused.com or go compare first place to look see what comes out then shop around selectively.
I was with swift cover and they only put renewal up £20. Just priced my alfa and it's £600 now but did a comparison and ensure came in at £489 inc euro cover and protected ncb which swift never had for £600
Aviva are doing 12 weeks free for new customers which was £505 with the offer as they charge over £600 normally

I'll probably go ensure I reckon

My last year's insurance on my 156 (x-reg, 1.6) was £750 (fully comp).

On 22nd December, a taxi driver quite rudely ploughed into the back of my car while I was stationary at traffic lights - write-off.

I now have to wait thirteenty million years for the taxi driver to admit liability and for Hastings to offer me some piffling amount for my bent 156.

Meantime, I've bought a 156 SportWagon (51-reg, 1.8). While I was considering getting her, I got some quotes (without mentioning the claim (as it's not processed yet)), just to gauge roughly what I'd be paying. I got quotes between £1200 and £8000! Yes! EIGHT GRAND - eight times what the car's worth!

For the remainder of my current policy I've just swapped the SportWagon for the bent 156, and hope to win the lottery before June.......
