Crazed 166 Super Insurance...or a Ferrari 360?

It's that time again! I will shortly need to re-insure my car and have been checking prices. It's amazing that there are such differences when all the relevant details remain the same for each quote.

I can get Fully Comprehensive insurance with a low(ish) excess of £200 with M&S, for £329. This includes protected NCB and courtesy car, yet other companies are charging up to £705, without offering any improvement on these conditions

£329? £705? I know these will be very low figures compared to some of you younger guys but it's all a rip off. My car is worth no more than £3K, yet I can insure a £110K Ferrari 360 Modena Fully Comp for £995 . So, if you have a better car, it works out cheaper! My Alfa insurance should really be £27

Everybody stay calm. Don't panic. It's just the end of the world. It'll be all right, as long as we all keep chanting.

One quote I had when I was shopping around with my car was $7500 AUD (approx 3,300GBP!)

Needless to say I settled on something around a third of the cost of that.

450 was the cheapest I could get with Adrian Flux on the link higher up.

It's down to the cost of repair. MattyB on here hydrolocked his 147GTA in last summers floods and completely knackered the engine. Alfa still haven't been able to source a 3.2.

I think his solution is good though. get it converted to a 3.7

It's not just that, minch! I've been quoted £995 for a bloody Ferrari - you can't get much more expensive to repair than that

£445 but does include the wife. Would have been cheaper if I didn't have to own up to speeding fines for the past 5 years - so even though these no longer appeared on licence as they had expired they still had to be mentioned - without them it was £75 cheaper!

Re: 166 Super Insurance...or a Ferrari 360?

Here in Australia I pay 1000 AUD about 440 GBP here in Australia to insure my 166. Problem with insurance is Alfa Romeo themselves. They stop producing many parts for their modern models not long after they have been built leading to high prices to source replacement parts. Also the relative rarity of the models doesn't help.

Also the high repair costs with the low resale values doesn't help.

Yeah but the average Ferrari owner doesn't drive the car muck. they just sit and watch it, and occasionally polish it with imported monkey spunk.*

*Probably not true.

True, but my quote was for 12,000 miles per year, so that is also not the reason!

Re: 166 Super Insurance...or a Ferrari 360?

Best Quote (if your prepared to go to £300 excess)

ESURE = £212..63 Fully Comprehensive Inc. Protected no claims discount(9 years) and Courtesy Car!

However, I should say that I have just reached the age when you are supposed to be having a "mid-life-crisis" so I will probably be changeing to a GTV some time this year!
