You'll find once you order is confirmed spec etc, you will get a call from Alfa to vet you.

Alfa is vetting buyers? When did that start?

Think the vetting was an LE only thing. Normal 4C:s are sold as any car out there.

All UK customers are being verified by AR after car is ordered but before build is confirmed with Italy.

Okay, so "vet" was probably not (?) what our Italian friend meant to say in context of the 4C. I'm aware of the special circumstances with the 8C ...

Does that mean a build slot is not transferable for a 4C then?
(Unfortunately only out of interest as it will not affect me )

For a non LE I'm sure it's not a problem. For an LE it might be.

Once the car is confirmed with Italy, no it's not changeable or transferable

Is it not just a matter of whom ever buys the build slot of the slot seller, briefing the slot holder as to how they wish the car to be spec'd? I know car companies use this nonsense regularly these days due to speculators buying build slots to be traded ....Is it not just a matter of not registering the car and selling once it arrives in the showroom, afterall is That not what the dealerships do themselves.

Apart from the spec and limited colour choice on the launch edition cars, I don't see a difference, its a 4C at the end of the day.

Will the rumour about a second shift being introduced in the factory and the predicted 5000 units per year volume move these build slots closer?

Well I secured a UK slot for late this year yesterday. My local dealer told me in December that he had an allocation of 3 for 2014 and one was still available. Committed yesterday, expecting a slight increase in inerest following Top Gear

Verified for what? Cash or pedigree?

Can't believe you are trying to make 'a turn' on an enthusiasts forum. Hopefully Alfa will vet your order!

I personally don't see the problem with it and incase you are not aware, many Alfa dealerships will be doing exactly the same. What gets me is manufacturers "Vetting " customers especially Alfa a company that is almost bankrupt! ...IMO they need to remove their head from their own backside.

The bottle neck is the production capacity of the carbon tub

The 4C is hardly a turnaround product financially . I wondered how long it would take before hopes of depreciation etc would set in. Not many complain about Apple etc selling you a product on their term either. They factor in how much they can earn from your data when that let you buy their products . Why shouldn't Alfa reserve the right to not sell to speculators etc?

It's hardly an 8C either, and attempting to impose sanctions on possible buyers, will lead many to say sod this I'll buy something else instead.

"Don't bite the hand that feeds you."

As for the Apple analogy, those of us who bought Mac before the ipad et al did like them because what they provided and represented was a reliable, open-sourced based software, functional and non-microsoft machine. What has put the majority off Apple is their own self imposed restrictions on non apple hardware, never mind they have become the most unreliable hardware manufacturer almost in the IT industry.

Alfa are hardly in a position to be chasing customers away. In the myopic short term there is a limited supply and therefore the OP is entitled to realise a profit on his investment , but the car will depreciate like every other mass production model, lets wait and see if in 12 months time they are still doing the same? ..id bet my bottom dollar they won't.

If the OP has just reserved a build slot and not specified the car and put the required deposit down, he has nothing to sell.

Does he not have a build slot to sell?

PS: I believe according to the edit note in the opening post, he has already sold it?

If the bouncers have not let him into the club , it sounds like he just sold his place in the queue outside?
