Going to Geneva in person - is there any point?

As per the thread title.

Am I going to gain anything by going to Geneva in person?

It looks viable for a day trip, flights should be reasonable. Cost of entry is very low.

Assuming they are launching the car there, I should be able to see it, but I won't be able to drive it.

Will I be able to get myself a guaranteed place in the queue for a RHD launch edition? I doubt it.

I think it comes down to actually being able to see the car in the metal.

Not that I was ever in a position to buy one, but when I saw pictures of the 8C I wasn't quite sure what all the fuss was about - then I saw one for real at the Canary Wharf Motor Show, and I instantly realised what all the fuss was about.

So, right now, I'm thinking I'll go.

Any thoughts, and any views on the right day to go?

Thanks

RG

It's worth going as Geneva is a great show and return flights only cost 65 . Whether the 4C bit of the show will be a VIP thing if you show an interest? Who knows.

Depends how much you want to do there and what you want to see.

I went to Geneva a few years agi because we needed to compare a few cars which hadn't been released in UK. If you're sold on it, I don't see any reason going just for the 4C...

However, it's quite nice there and you get to see other beauties such as the Huayra or other rare beauties.

You'll enjoy the motor show anyway, so definitely worth going!

Haha, I mean because of the clear indecision. If the OP had to see it, he would. The indecision is all he needs.

Just go for the fun of the whole show, it's really great, I went for the 'Progetto 159' launch, ie the Brera and the 159's. The Alfa stand was a quite well attended although it was obvious the the hospitality room was for restricted entry only and a 'pleb' on a two day trip from Dorset was not welcome.
The whole buzz of the show is great, I would definitely go again.

The car WILL be launched at Geneva! That seems certain now..

Whether you will get your hands on a launch edition version.. Well that's another matter all together..

Heard the slots are filling up so you better jump on the info I gave you

i'm uneasy with ordering a car without knowing key specs and pricer. what is to be expected from the launch edition? i would fancy an ivory white paint and gunmetal/black turbine design rims.

how much would the insurance premium cost? its uncharted territory for me!

from Alfa to me in an email:

"For sure coming to Geneva will be the best way to physically see and touch the brand new Alfa Romeo 4C before launch."

So I'm getting a co-driver and planning a trip

Driving would be my preferred method. Happy to co-drive / share costs if you like. I'm not far from Beds.

Done that already. Had a reply, but not had any "firm" offer of a place in the queue for the launch edition.

We (me, Squadronne Rosso & two local Alfisti) are going again this year it will be our 5th consecutive year.

We originally did the day trip - on a Saturday at around 6am back 8pm - usually totally knackered !!

We've now take a more civilised approach and fly out on Friday morning, chill in the afternoon and maybe pop into the show as its cheap after 4pm, then out for a nice meal in Geneva, overnight in the Holiday Inn Express adjacent to the airport, then hit the show at 9am Saturday spend the day wandering and "blagging" access to certain closed stands, a nice meal at La Rotisserie before flying back at 8.30pm, usually home by midnight.

Total cost excluding meals

Flights 62 each
Hotel 75 each
Show 10 each

Pic 1 Access to the 4c at the initial Launch organised by Veronica - Sadly moved job to IKEA

Pic 2 Champagne on the Maserati Stand

Pic 3 Champagne on the Ferrari Stand ......you get the idea....

All i'd say its probably the best show in Europe, if you get the chance to go DO IT !!

"Once an Alfaholic, always an Alfaholic"

"Petrolhead Heaven - The only way to get there is in an Alfa Romeo"
