Brera 2.2

Fingers crossed and all, but I may have solved my problems, which were (a) rubbish dipped beam on the Brera, (b) difficulty of changing bulbs and (c) the idiot previous owner that lost one of the little clips that holds the bulbs in.
Taking the last first, a friend in the trade suggested trying unfranchised alfa specialists. I was lucky enough to get in touch with Eddy at Alfaman, in Harrow (Alfaman Services Limited - Alfa Romeo Specialists Garage in London), who found me a clip and sold it me for £9.99. With everyone else saying I would have to buy a whole new light unit, that is a bargain. Thanks Eddy, I wish you weren't quite so far away.
To try to improve the beam, I bought some Philips X-treme Power +80% bulbs from Car Lights - Car Bulbs - Headlights - Wiper Blades - Xenon Bulbs | Autobulbs Direct Ltd. A useful website and quick delivery.
With the excuse of Christmas and the bad weather, I put off the fitting for a bit but with the help of a pair of very long (nearly 1 foot handle to tip) long nose pliers it wasn't too bad, although worse on the drivers side (RHD car). On a tip from Eddy, I put some twine on the springs to catch them just in case they popped off and dropped into the innards. Mind you, the main beam looks a lot more difficult. How hard would it be to take out the whole headlamp unit?
Anyway, I now have a dipped beam which is really good, so top marks to the Phillips bulbs.
BTW, I've just come to the conclusion that when you buy an Alfa you get a hobby for free.
