Breakout areas are required in modern open plan offices as it is impossible to hold any sort of private or semi private discussion at your desk. It may well be important that a discussion between you and your line manager about a client or supplier is not overheard by all and sundry passing up and down the aisle beside your, or indeed their, desk.
Bring back the tradditional office layout and there would be no need for break out areas etc..
