Rent-a-Ramp Halifax

Just come back from the above which I'd like to bring to the attention of Yorkshire -based Alfisti.

My local Bradford based indy had mentioned at the last MOT there was some corrosion on the floor pan of the 8 year old 147 and I ought to get it treated and Waxoiled. I asked for a price and they said £280 ( no, you have not misheard)!

So I thought I'd DIY and rather than crawl under under the car on jacks at home I'd rent a ramp. Halifax Rent a Ramp are just off the Keighley Road and in a brand new industrial unit so I visited them today armed with all the tools needed to do the job.

I need not have bothered, they had a full tool chest, power tools galore, gloves, goggles and ear protectors and the use of a brand new electric ramp, all for £10 per hour! You get a full safety brief before using the Ramp beforehand too.

The job took me just 5 minutes to grind off the corrosion on either side of the transmission tunnel ( I know FWD) and 3 coats of spray rust killer later I was finished, just need to go back tomorrow after the rust killer has cured to put on the Waxoil.

Halifax Rent a Ramp could not have been more helpful but I have to say I won't be darkening the door of B*arings again. Even if they had stripped off all the existing underbody protection it would not have taken them 6 hours ( most of the underseal is fine anyway) and materials have not cost me £15!

Halifax Rent-a Ramp are on Ladyship Business Park off the A629, their number is 07595 936343.

Never knew about this. I'll have to keep it in mind as a ramp is always handy.

I had investigated buying a decent jack and using axle stands but for £10 an hour to be able to stand under the car in decent light: it's a bit of a no-brainer! Don't know If I'd attempt a cambelt there mind......
