I know this isn't truely a forum for discussing such things other than local meets, but I thought it might be a good idea to have a list of local specialists and people's experiences of them.

Reply on this thread with details (names, addresses, genuine experiences, etc) and I'll periodically update this first post to keep all the info together. :)

I was contacted recently by an Alfa convert who had used JJB Motors in York for something. He was very unhappy with their attitude, service and the bill. I managed to restore his faith in the marque and recommended an alternative garage but understand he has/will be reporting JJB Motors to trading standards.

There's usually two sides to every story but what I heard was very alarming.

I have to say that is completely at odds with my experiences of JJB, Chris. I have found them to be thorough, professional, and courteous. Not the cheapest, but I have had absolutely no problems with the quality of the work or service I have had over the last two years.

As you say, no doubt, two sides to every story.

Northern Alfa Performance

I've had loads of work done by Gareth at Northern Alfa on my 159 and previously my wife's Fiat Punto. He's a lovely bloke and I have never had reason to question any work he's carried out for us. He always does a very thorough job and knows his stuff. Highly recommended!!

recommended alfa garages

I have used Alfatech in huddersfield for years. But they've never seen an italian car from me yet, Iv always turned up with golf's, MGB gt, MR2 etc. the guys, Paul, Sean are passionate about classic car resto. They own a mk1 Fiesta xr2, and last I visited were re-shelling an Escort XR3. Hourly rate is £40 and I trust them with what I cant repair myself.

Has anyone used AlfaTek at Whitley Bridge recently?

The multiair unit on my Giulietta has decided, after 75,000 miles, to intermittently stick one of the actuators. Hence it will have to be replaced before it packs up completely.

I have realised that not only are AlfaTek as near as Northern Alfa but that they will, according to their website, pick up and return from Scunthorpe which means I could forgo the delights of killing time in Tickhill, Gareth's solution if you don't have a second driver/car on tap.

Edit. Update. Having got a price from Alfatek I have decided to go down south to Royston (Alfa Workshop, Jamie Porter) and save myself £200.
