R & R Autos Wolverhampton...

Hi,

My GT is due a service v.soon...

I know W.A.D are well regarded here but I'm considering R & R Autos (A small independent Alfa, Lancia and Fiat specialist) in Wolverhampton for a couple of reasons:

1. Quite a bit cheaper than W.A.D - though I accept W.A.D have deservedly built up a good reputation over time to allow them the right to charge more. Also in most cases i'm a believer in getting what you pay for too.

2. R & R is better located for me - usually drop the car off on days when I don't need it, so don't normally need courtesy cars etc. can easily walk/bus to R & R.

3. The guy I spoke to at R & R was helpful and I figured it's good to help a smaller lesser known/established local business.

Just wondered if anybody had any experiences with them? I could only find one mention for R & R in the W.A.D thread, which was positive feedback but it'd be nice to get some more views from others too It'll be the first service done under my ownership so I don't want to for the 'cheap' option only to end up 'paying' for it later, although if I can get a good job done and save some cash along the way then I'm happy happy

Cheers,

dalyboy

Hi dalyboy

Wolves lad here. Never used R&R! Always good to know of other garages locally. I think when you find a good indie you tend to stick with it, but no harm in finding out good reviews of others!

Are they a big garage? Never heard of them to be honest! I am the other side of town though....

Hi,

No, it's a small place really. 2-3 cars in the garage, parking for 2-4 cars in front. Think it is just the one guy who works on the cars there (Richard). The one mention R&R got in the W.A.D thread was pretty positive though. I guess W.A.D have the good reputation so a lot of people on this forum go there and then have no reason to go anywhere else.

I was just putting the question out there really as would have thought a few others on the forum in the Wolverhampton area would have used R&R?

Perhaps R&R don't market themselves as well as they could/should. I notice their website isn't available at the moment either.

Have you considered motormech over in Birmingham, It's right in the centre only stones through Selfridges , I have been using them for 3 years now and travel from Telford as It's really handy on a Saturday pop the car for a bit of work and do a bit. of shopping, I had quote from wad recently for a wheel bearing and they were quite a bit more than motomech so I will stick them .

Hi there,

Just thought I would add a comment about R&R autos. I have a 147 which I took to R&R autos I was impressed with the guy - think his name was Richard? Was reserved about taking it somewhere where I didn't know my mind was put a ease when I found out the owner has over 17years experience with Alfa's, better still he used to work for W.A.D (12 years) before going on his own. With money tight at moment was a great find saved me close to £100 without the compromise of quality &service.

Looks like you have your answer.
Sound garage and strong Alfa experience.
And cheaper.

Thanks to all who have posted...I decided to go with R & R based on the general feedback here and my desire to try and save some money. So...

Having now had my GT serviced at R & R Autos I have to say it was a very positive experience. Great honest, helpful and friendly service and keenly priced too.

Anyone in the Midlands, i.e. the Wolverhampton area do consider R & R. I would post a link to their website but wasn't sure if that was allowed in forum rules but it's easily found, just google 'R & R Autos Wolverhampton'.

No I don't work there but as a smaller lesser known independent garage I wanted to express my thanks here to help publicise my recent positive experience and to say that I fully recommend the service provided by Richard. The more good quality garages the better I say.

I hope the experiences of others continue to be shared on this thread too...

I don't know about the loan car...it's only a small place so perhaps not. May be worth asking though.

I'll be looking into this as is it literally 5 mins away from my mums house.

Heard of him before but never got around investigating further.
Ex WAD employee, so shouldnt expect any problems with workmanship.

Will keep you posted.

Hey All

Just come back from R & R Auto's in Bilston after a Cambelt, Variator and Water Pump Change done by the owner Rich. Really pleased with the job, very helpful and very knowledgeable guy with a long history of Alfa experience and really well priced!

Would highly recommend, very easy to talk too and as I said knows his stuff, going back soon for a noisy wheel bearing and a service!

Currently have my Phase 2 QV there having its subframe replaced.
Saw / met the owner above and his nice GTV together with seeing and meeting Richard for the first time yesterday. Nice to see Cam locks & DTI guage in place whilst doing a cambelt replacement unlike on indi I went to last year of whom I had to advise to use the above.

No problems with comms or service or service so far, due to get car back today and will update.

Nice having 3 good within a 15-20 mile radius.

**UPDATE**

Had the QV back today. Richard certainly knows his stuff. Def another good indi in the Midlands who has time, knowledge, skill and experience with a good price.
Car feels good, no nasty surprises. Happy.
