Fish and chips done in dripping or lard were out of this world.

We had no socks for ages sometimes until mother had managed to find time to knit another pair in between doing her ARP duties and stamping ration books, and charging accumulators, and bathing us in a tin bath, and using that corrugated scrubbing board to keep what few rags we wore clean ........ :

HM nice well fed and fat( reared on grass and silage), beefherds made the best tasting Yorkshire ever, with the joint int' middle?

So if you can get beef like that I envy you mate .I'm afraid some of this modern beef is not in the same league worse luck, imo. :

Funny you should say that Zed Ormy has great butchers and every chance I get I buy off them

Pre packed Morrisons meat is ok but market town butchers the dogs

 Ormy is one of the few places I know that actually has a proper local meat butcher living next to a supermarket

India! Three weeks of flip-flops and not a sock in sight. Same on most of our hols to warm(ish) places, it's all hairy toes, heaving locals and no sign if a sock for days on end.
