Has a Traffic Warden ever shown you mercy

..I post this one in here because I reckon it's more of a human nature subject
than a motoring one .. and certainly not a rant

I hired another car today, to go to visit another car this weekend with a view
of buying ... I parked the hire care on the pavement outside my house and dashed
in to get a few things .. 2 mintues later as I came back to drive off, there was a
traffic warden/community officer taking a photo of the reg and he'd already placed
one of those tickets on my windscreen (£35 quid within 14 days)

I said "this is where I live, can't you let me off, I'm going now"

he said, in a very nice and sympathetic way "Sorry, I've already issued the ticket
but you can appeal" ...my fault of course, but am a bit surprised he didn't
wait for a bit because he could clearly see my front door was wide open ...

I suppose there's no way out of it at all is there?

2nd chances are rare

I'll offer you my sympathy over that Q. That really is a bummer to of experienced.:

Just by way of some sort of consolation, at least you can hire cars, I can't or so I've been told having gone past the seven decades marker post. :

I'd actually parked right next to the Zig Zag lines next to a public crossing,
but on the wide pavement which he pointed out fairly but the car was not
obstructing a thing, he happily and the sorrily agreed but said it was out
of his hands ... I don't mind much though ... It pales into what am going to
sort out this weekend

Not a rant... But I've lost count of the number of times I've parked within controlled areas and fed coins into the machines, only to find that the machine has apparently either run of paper, or is rejecting one or more of the perfectly legitimate coins which I have poured into it (presumably because they are too old and/or not shiny enough):... and therefore found a ticket on my windscreen by the time that I have eventually found a machine which has accepted my coins and issued a parking permit ticket ...

Having then (at great inconvenience) taken time away from work in order to present my case to the relevant authority, I have been informed that tickets, once issued, cannot be withdrawn, and must be paid in full

Only once
Was working on a bank and it had a delivery bay outside, I whizzed into it sharpish and
executed a lovely bit of parallel reverse parking and got out feeling pleased with myself
getting a spot right outside the bank when I gets a tap on my shoulder...

The warden says " Can I first say that was a nice bit of parallel parking"....
"And that's a nice Alfa you've got"..."But you can't park here "

I explained that I was working in the bank that night and needed to off load tools etc

He says that in half an hour he's off duty so unload the kit now, move the car 20' to another
spot then come back when he's gone ....He stood there and looked after the car while I unloaded..

Result

I'd pay the fine Quinnster If I was you ...They get cute now when you appeal by leaving
it until the grace period is over then refusing your appeal which then doubles the fine...

I just got my final bill of £453.50 for trying to appeal against one I got 18 months ago

In the far distant past when traffic wardens here in London were (I think) under the control of the Police, you could reason with them and 'mercy' was not unknown.
Ever since wardens became employees of local authorities - no chance.

It's not about logic or reason, just a merciless revenue generating scheme.

Good luck with the car search Q

I think the common description is that it is now a "jobsworth" mentality

Seventy or so I've been informed mate? Good job that I, like a certain Mr. Humphreys, and a Mr. B. Forsythe and others, have something in common?

Appreciable younger spouses who are extremely useful in so many respects?
