Designated Olympic lanes on local routes
Troops,
Driving to my nan's today along the Egham-by-pass to get to the M25, sadly I didn't have enough time to pop in to Ferrari at the old Tower of Egham site to place an order for a new Berlinetta. Ah, shucks!
But...one of the by-pass' carriageway lanes is now an 'Olympic Lane', with it sectioned off with lines, and Olympic rings all conveying the very clear message you can't travel in it.
For a few hundred metres, I stayed out of it, then, thinking this is stupid, I went into it; the Ols have not started, and there's no obvious system of cameras to penalise you for using it - a painted line related to an event happening 40 miles away next month, should not be allowed to compromise my safety today, surely?
Are you a distance from London, and do any of your roads have these lanes with any 'advice' about how to use them/and when before/during the Olympics?
Even in the darkest hour, love comes shining through.
Then it doesn't seem so far from me to you.

Never venture near the metropolis other than by train or Greenline, so I've no idea personally.
But I will ask around as I know loads who reside in this area track on down the M1 everyday bless em'. :

It gets worse...
Some of the clowns running this great running/jumping bonanza have suggested that all construction traffic in the London area be suspended for the duration of the event!
They have actually had the gall to approach the likes of Hanson and Tarmac suggesting they might consider closing their central concrete plants for a couple of weeks and put the work to outlying depots...considering most of the materials for the games have been delivered by the same owner/drivers they are now trying to shaft the reaction has been quite robust

Can you imagine all of these problems and kerfuffle in the '36 Oly Imps?
No, me neither. Nothing untoward like this in '51 for the Festival of Britain either that I remember. Oh we had it in was it '47, with no trouble iirc? See how keen on it I am?

The Olympic Rowing events take place at the Rowing Facilities at Eton Dorney just up the road from Egham so your 40 miles is a little over estimated

ah, well spotted! i forgot about that. Will there be enough rowers travelling down the Egham by pass to warrant their own lane?

During the games on olympic routes there are to be no roadside deliveries during the day, instant £250 fine if you try, advised to make all deliveries at night, or so i am told..

From my Local Authority......
"To avoid being issued with a penalty charge notice, motorists should not drive on the Games Lanes when they are operational. They will be easily identifiable by clear markings on the Lanes and signs along the roadside."

The latest news is to not drive in areas affected by the games for the two weeks leading up to them. Great joy, not.
