Re: Today I am mostly listening to
Absolutely love, LOVE this version of "Can't Help Falling in Love"
If you ain't doing a jig with a big grin on your face by the end of it, I'll eat my shalaylay
YouTube - LICK THE TINS - Can't Help Falling In Love
Used in the fab Steven Frears film "The Snapper", (and some other 80's teen comedy too!)
....The Eels do a pretty fine cover too (at the other end of the "uplifting" spectrum )

All those songs are off their first album! They have released another two since then
I think their latest album is better then the previous too, but, listen to 'All that I've got' (or better yet, watch it with the video) and 'Taste of Ink' two diamonds from the band from Utah

oh mate you're a genius for reminding me of that track, i've got it on 7" vinyl up in the loft somewhere - pure musical marshmallow washed down with a bucket of maple syrup
i'm sure i've told you that before actually, but thought i'd tell you again just in case i've got my wires crossed

Am I safe to ditch the shalaylay (shillelagh?) ??

lol you could say that.
The Bedlam in Goliath (The Mars Volta's lastest album) is probably more accessible, still off the wall though. You son has good taste.
Is he a fan of At the Drive-in? - The band that the main protagonists of The Mars Volta were in before. It's more Post-hardcore rock than Prog, I love it.
norb.

Don't know norbs. I'll ask him.
I didn't disike it and some songs were really good though I have no idea what they were. It's a bit difficult checking out the track names when you're in the car!
I shall listen to it a few more times.

Abba - The Album
... hated Abba as a spotty skateboarding yoof when this was in the charts, but it still sank into my psyche and it's so evocative of that time

Rush - Lifeson soloing in La Villa Strangiato.
YouTube - Rush - La Villa Strangiato at Pinkpop 1979
Love the guitar parts he writes and the soul that goes into playing them. You can hear the expression on his face without looking - just great
