karma

do you believe?

i don't. i just believe in doing a good turn now and again, as part of being a human being. about 5 years ago i ran out of petrol in my old 156, and a builder laying some paving slabs nearby offered me a jerry can of unleaded he had for his cement mixer. very relieved, i offered him a tenner for what was probably a fiver's worth of fuel, only for him to say he believed in karma, and that he didn't want any money for it.

so last week on holiday, i was talking to the dutch family on the pitch next to ours on the campsite. they'd been to the town of millau and dumped the car and done a day's mountain biking, only to come back and realise their car had been locked in the car park after 8pm, costing them something daft like a 100 euro cab ride home. so the next morning i drove frank down there (70 mile round trip) to get his car. he insisted that he pay me for the diesel, but i remembered the builder with the cement mixer and said no.

daft really, but it made me feel really good. and he bought me several beers later on.

anyone else got any karma stuff going on, or do we all just do a good turn now and again?

That was good of you! There arn't many people that like to help out for free these days.

I painted an old womens flat a few weeks ago in my free time. It just makes you feel better about yourself, which in turn makes you happy. It only took 3 hours, but she had been waiting for someone to do it for years.

Al, i'm a massive believer in karma. i do good deeds from my heart, and never because i want anything in return. I just hope that what i did might spark up that person's day a bit, so my goodwill cheers them enough so that they're a bit nicer to their missus, or workmates, or the bloke in the shop, or other drivers, or whoever.

There's a saying i like (but have forgotten in the mists of time) that sort of goes: 'you should always be kind, because everyone is carrying a cross'.

We all need to chivvy along a bit. Life's easier when we help each other out with kindness.

Even in the darkest hour, love comes shining through.
Then it doesn't seem so far from me to you.

Dunno about karma per se Al - it's all about people isn't it..?

If you happen to find decent folk, they'll be good as gold and vice versa However, encounter selfish twunts and you'll get nothing

Nice one Al.

I don't know about karma but it is good for the soul (whther or not you "believe") to do a good turn just for the sheer goodness of it. You feel better about yourself and the recipient feels better about the rest of society and that maybe we aren't all descending into Dante's Inferno or whatever the Daily Mail latest scare story leads on.

Yep good old "what goes around comes around" the circles theory. There is a crackin film made a few years ago called Pass it on (I think) worth a look see.

Yep, did that at lunchtime Jim

Went into a busy place with Mrs J and J Jnr. They could only offer us a small table for two that we could pull another chair up to. Sat down and started contemplating what to have when a mother and daughter offered to swap our place for their much larger one

A nice thought and rather surprising. I bought their drinks for them in return - everyone left feeling good... including the owners of the place

It cost them nothing for the gesture and me 2.90 - small things eh..?

it works the other way too, the kid o work with was being a right a55hole to my colleague who had taken him out mountain biking, he wanted to come back on the main rd thru cardiff, she wanted to stay on the track, he had a major tantrum (hes 17) and rode off, hit a pothole and fll off scraping his arms badly and his knees...oh dear , how we tried not to laugh and look concerned..

he did the same thing again spoke to my colleague like poo, jumped over the wall around the house and fell in a huge pile of stinging nettles, and that time we did laff until we cried ,,,hes such a waste of space its unbelievable...

I believe in what goes around comes around, not sure if that's classed as karma, and have heard similar stories to yours Al.

I'm just hoping that all the nasty things a certain person has done over the years also comes and bites that certain person on the bum But I bet it doesn't

I think life sometimes has a warped sense of humour, and I see why some people call that karma. I've had enough stoopid, embarrassing (and usually painful) things happen to me a short while after thinking (or saying) similar about someone else.

Karma? Irony? Twisted mind of some Greater being? I dunno.

i believe in Karma/Paying it forward whatever you choose to call it....

It is so easy to do a good deed, and the reward may not come for sometime, but on the flip side when you do bad i believe that will come back to haunt you as well, maybe not today or tomorrow, but sometime

I'm a believer of treating people as you would like to be treated yourself, and a good deed can go a long way.
Even people i don't neccessarily respect but are generally o.k i have helped out, and know if i needed a favour they would go out of their way to help.
It makes you feel good about yourself as well.

Karma seems to work backwards for me

Last week I unintentionally jumped the queue at a filling station then the pump broke down and I got half a tank of fuel for free

This week I've helped AO member Squadrone Rosso out with the loan of a spare wheel and I've been NIP'd for an accident I can't have been involved in

I'm confused (without the .com)

Nice one Al.

Not sure if I believe in Karma but I do believe in doing someone a good deed when the occasion arises.

Unfortunately, I've seen some morally corrupt individuals destroy the lives of others and seemingly suffer no personal setbacks as a consequence.

I've also been witness to countless acts of kindness. Random acts of kindness make life worth living.
