Ello........
Afternoon guys......
I need a little bit of help with a website name.....
I want to start up a small website selling fine jewellery but need a name for it, any ideas?
i was thinking something like:
itsallaboutthebling.co.uk
its-all-about-the-bling.co.uk
about-bling.co.uk
any ideas would be great, in fact if I have a winner you MIGHT get a freebee, free bangle or something for the other half.

fine jewellery and lingo like 'bling' are a no-no.
It sounds like: 'Oy, trollop! wanna buy a Benz? It's got rimz'
The language needs refining, it needs an air of grace.
Bling = trash. On every level.

Excuse me if i sound big headed, but i like to think i know a bit when it comes to business.
First off, you dont associate humour with jewelry. Low price gadget website-Maybe.
What you want is a company name with a bit of class, afterall if your company name is a joke, what does that say about the products.
You need to know your customer base very well, age, which part of the world they live in, how much wonga they have etc.
Spice around with words, make your own word up if you like, mix two together, just make sure it sounds "nice".
And dont forget to have a beasty tag line. Something that belittle's your competetors in a conspicuous way.

Im happy to be knocked down...........itll make me get it right!
Your sorta right, but what i mean i dont want it to sound naff, for example andrewsjewellers
customer base is going to be aimed at people from 18 to 35, prices not too high, from £20 to £300ish

What products are you selling? Price bracket etc. And to which age group are you targeting?
p.s i know what you mean about "jummysplumbing.com" I own a graphics company, and i cringe when i see (i hope i'm not insulting anyone here) a company name like the one above that they want on their van. I just think, how un imaginative is that and makes me think it will not be successfull.

I'd avoid hyphenated names.
"You'll find us at Jewellery hyphen For hyphen You dot com." Just sounds awkward. Or at least that what strikes me with a lot of radio advertising.

Meh, i see what you meen. But the hyphen represents a space, and as it is on the internet i dont see how it matters.
I have a hyphen in my company name, mainly because when i designed the logo (again very important) it looked too good to be left out.
p.s when i say my company name i obviously dont say the hyphen that would make me look strange.

No, when you say the company name you don't say the hyphen, but when you tell someone the web address you do.
It just sounds clumsy IMHO.
Alfahyphenownerdotcom.
Also, using word of mouth as an advertising medium, if it includes a hyphen you may find that people omit this when telling friends, who then either don't find the website, or find a competitors site instead.

In my experience, if you need to be telling people your website, and they arnt finding it on search engines i.e gold bracelet. Then it dosnt matter how good your website name is it wont work.
I have about 800-1200 visitors to my website daily, i think i have only told friends and family whent he address is, the rest are from google, yahoo, bing etc.

True, but in the early days of a website, word of mouth is a good start to increase your hits and thus search engine rank.

Not really, how ever many people you can tell wont be a drop in the ocean really. I make 100 unit sales daily from my website , and 50% more from ebay (150 sales) from probably 2000 visitors, so if you tell even 100 people what percentage will purchase. The only reason i make more sales o ebay is because of more exposure on google, even tho' products are 10% cheaper from my website.
And you can get 400,000 visitors within a week if you wanted total hits to go up, to rise through pages on google.

Yes, if i was on the top of google on every search result i would be a millionaire. Even if you offer good money to go on google "sponsored results" they still wont do it for you. Google can honestly make or break you. Simple as that.

This is one example of a earring and pendent.
This here is a lovely Diamond and Blue Topaz, in 9ct White Gold,
The pendent RRP is; £255 our price £149
The Earrings RRP is; £199 our price £119
Ill also give the option to buy as a set giving to the customer can save a bit more.
Note: this will not be a high street VS our price site, one price will be shown i.e. £149.00. This was just to give you an idea.
Its just one of many many pieces ill be showing. I just opened up a page and took a picture from my brochure.

It may be better to do a rrp price along side your price , as if i was buying something as a gift i would want to know it was worth at least what i was paying. Customers like to be re-assured, that they are getting a good deal. Also offering postage at a reasonable flat rate price will help sales, as there is nothing worse than seing something on the net at a good price only to find out that the postage is more than the product. This is why play.com is so successful, as the prices are very competitive and with free delivery "seels the deal".

[QUOTE=gazza12345;3367369]It may be better to do a rrp price along side your price , as if i was buying something as a gift i would want to know it was worth at least what i was paying.
I did think about doing that, and still might, I just didn't want to sound like a discount website.
Adding postage into the price is also a step for me, but again early stages. I want my site to be simple, honest and quality. The price you see is the price you pay.
I remember me and Pomeo got an exhaust from xxxxx, £89 was the quote, turned up and it was £120 or something, same with pomeo. I called xxx up and said WTF! They assume we knew to add postage and Vat..............i still talk about it now so didnt leave a good impression. If he said £120 to yr door, id still av had it and been impressed.
