I suffered terribly - ended up in hospital with dehydration, so tell your wife she really does have my sympathy (mine only went away when he was born, sorry to say)
A few things that helped me:
- keep a ginger biscuit on the bedside table. Eat it before you even move first thing in the morning to settle the stomach and head it off at the pass
- eat little and often (no big meals, but don't leave it too long between meals) to keep blood sugar level
- I found it useful to try and eat like a diabetic - make sure you don't have foods that make your blood sugar 'spike', try and keep it level
- having said that

, if you do feel sick, a sugary drink like Coke will help settle the stomach
- ginger based products are good for settling the stomach, add ginger to food, and ginger biscuits are good.
- try and have a little fresh air/exercise every day, even just a brief walk, even if you don't feel like it - it'll get the endorphines going, and make you feel much better
- if it gets any worse, go to the doctor, there are things they can give you
