Re: Morning Sickness Cures?

Go to your doctor - in extreme cases they can prescribe but it needs a professional to determine.

Congratulations though - an exciting time for you both I am sure.

the only thing that helped Mrs F was keeping busy - being occupied kept her mind of it...

Re: Morning Sickness Cures?

I suffered terribly - ended up in hospital with dehydration, so tell your wife she really does have my sympathy (mine only went away when he was born, sorry to say)

A few things that helped me:

- keep a ginger biscuit on the bedside table. Eat it before you even move first thing in the morning to settle the stomach and head it off at the pass
- eat little and often (no big meals, but don't leave it too long between meals) to keep blood sugar level
- I found it useful to try and eat like a diabetic - make sure you don't have foods that make your blood sugar 'spike', try and keep it level
- having said that, if you do feel sick, a sugary drink like Coke will help settle the stomach
- ginger based products are good for settling the stomach, add ginger to food, and ginger biscuits are good.
- try and have a little fresh air/exercise every day, even just a brief walk, even if you don't feel like it - it'll get the endorphines going, and make you feel much better
- if it gets any worse, go to the doctor, there are things they can give you

Time you enjoy wasting, was not wasted.

Re: Morning Sickness Cures?

your missus has my utmost sympathy. mrs al (like mamalasagne) was hospitalised about 7 times early in 2008 with hyperemesis (extreme morning sickness). first night they used to rehydrate her, 2nd night they'd fill her up with sugars, salts & Vitamins and then give her some anti-emetic drugs. then she'd be well enough to go home so i'd bring her back and watch her gradually deteriorate again for about a week until she had to be admitted again . then she she felt horrifically sick literally every waking hour for 4 months.

she tried ginger biscuits, sucking ice cubes and all the other old remedies but to no avail. i hope your missus gets over it soon

Re: Morning Sickness Cures?

Wow amazing response people I'm touched, but you prob knew that
Mama, sorry you had it so bad; your advice is much appreciated by my wife. The ginger bit was working early on but she cant face it now, wont say how I'm gonna trick her into having it coz she's looking over my shoulder right now.
Al, sorry Mrs Al was so bad it makes our probs seem very small.
Chris thanks for the possible cure but as my wife is needle-phobic, I'm going out on a limb here saying it maybe a NO NO.
And as for you Jimbo SHAME ON YOU

Re: Morning Sickness Cures?

Oh I forgot!

THE best thing (I can't believe I forgot it!!) was peppermint tea - there was a long period where it was literally the only thing I could stomach. Great thing is, is that it's a stomach settler, and it'll help keep her hydrated

Re: Morning Sickness Cures?

I had a couple of mornings of seasickness, like I was on a boat. I had some plain crackers ready to munch on, probably similar to the ginger biscuits.
Best of luck with her pregnancy, it's an exciting time. The times can vary for how long this stage lasts, I hope she's nearing the end of the sickness.
Here they will medicate the sick feeling if it goes on too long. After the first 3 months are over I believe. It really helps. I have a friend who was prescribed this medication and was very thankful.
