Re: More High Street Gloom....

M & S now refusing to confirm or deny this. Sounds ominous, methinks...

My two favourite shops Hope they manage to weather the storm - although I have been in both (a lot ) since Christmas, and neither was busy as it should have been at this time of year.

M&S have been rubbish for years, I'm not surprised if they are struggling (don't even buy my pants from there anymore)

I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you

I've always found M&S food to be seriously over-priced, over-processed, over-packaged, and nowhere near as good as they think it is. I think they'll really struggle with people now wanting to spend less, and opening new stores sounds crazy to me at the moment

Food stores are always odd in a Recession as people stop spending on expensive luxury goods and give themselves cheaper treats which is often better quality (or so they think) food. Its a gamble but it might be the only thing that saves the group.

I don't buy food from them simply 'cos of the adverts....*in that annoying suposedly sexy voice* its not just a beef and onion pasty - its hand fettled beef that has had its coat back combed by left handed vestal virgins with onions that have been picked by Monks of the upper lower region of the blahblahblah...

Re: More High Street Gloom....

This is the most dangerous time of year for retailers who have been struggling. Liquidators like the low stock level and high cash that follows the Christmas sales.

Re: More High Street Gloom....

Marks and Spencer have now confirmed that more than 1200 jobs to go, and possible store closures. We have THREE stores down here. One in the City centre and 2 out in retail parks. Wonder if it will affect them.....
