Pyramids, Cathedrals and Citys in the Mountains

Have just seen a TV program about the construction of these
types of super structures and about the workers and master
craftsmen who built them over the past thousands of years all
over the planet...

...even as a little kid I used to wonder how these things ever got
constructed and I'm still in awe of it all now

the fact that they managed it at all stuns me ... in a good way

all back in the days without modern machinery, the internet,
email, telephones, 150 foot cranes etc...

...well done those men (and women am guessing)

Use of the Hospital bell:

ring once if you want anything
ring twice if it's urgent
and ring three times if it's too late

yup ... apparently, for instance, the master stone masons who
built the early Norman cathedrals in England after the invasion
had only a basic grasp of geometry (shapes and what fits where
through trial and error) ... but they did it anyway

Nev... it was on BBC2 at 7:00pm this evening
(It was actually all about the building of the cathedrals
and all the people who died whilst doing such a thing)

but it made me think about all structures like that

... one interesting fact was that in the 11th century,
after Lincoln cathedral was built on dodgy foundations, there was a choir singing in there and the whole Bell tower fell on them in what
was described at the time as "sounded like an earthquake"

They were crap. They took ages to build anything. If they'd worked out how to make cranes, telephones and the internet first they'd have done much better.
