It's worth it just to drive through the tunnel. The engine sounds gorgeous going through there.

That is what I find really odd about the Severn bridge, you only have to pay one way ... and who would want to pay to get into wales

Thanks for the heads up on the price change

When the bridge was being built, they promised to scrap the toll as soon as it had paid for itself.

Well that day came and went a couple of years ago, and now they're still going

Re: Dartford Crossing Toll Increase

Hi everyone,
yes in 2003 the mandate for collecting the toll ended but the government surprise surprise changed the toll to a congestion charge.
(theres congestion because you're collecting money at booths!!)
There are around 54 milion crossings per year - please do the maths and see how much we're being ripped off for again. added to longer journeys, burning up fuel stuck in traffic, accidents in the queues etc etc -
if you get a darttag it will cost "just" £1.00 per crossing but you must deposit £10 minimum to get a tag. so 4 return trips a year and you're in profit and no need to remember coins etc

Re: Dartford Crossing Toll Increase

All my motorway trips cost.
It's one of the only regions in France with tolls on urban autoroutes.

And they've reduced the speed to 110 and added cameras.

F'ers!

£1.50 is a 50% increase - why?

Quite correct VO2, as long as we take it on the chin without protesting, then the government can charge us anything for anything. Apparently beer is soon going to be £4 a pint. We haven't seen protests for anything in years - petrol, household fuel, council tax, public transport. Everything has increased, except wages for ordinary people, or should that be SHEEPLE!

Re: Dartford Crossing Toll Increase

It's time we voted the SNP in to Westminster - they have just scrapped all toll charges in Scotland, the shortfall is to be made up by toll increases in England as agreed by our leaders Gordon Brown & Alistair Darling.

Re: Dartford Crossing Toll Increase

I suppose one of the reasons for the large "inflation busting" increase is that this is the first increase in the last 17 years (did they start charging when the bridge was completed??) so 50p over that period is a reasonable increase ...

... apparently dart tag users will still pay £1 though ...
