Hurricane Ike Is Getting Very Serious

The American government has told people deciding to remain in their homes that they should take a marker and write their name and social security number on their body so that their bodies can be identified. They issued a warning they have never issued, those staying in their homes on the coast face certain death!!

Pretty scary. But a desparate message like that should certainly get people's attention.

The waves on the BBC clip look huge already and Ike isn't scheduled to arrive until tomorrow morning.

More than a million people on the move is just mind boggling.

Actually, the "face certain death" warning was also issued the day before Katrina struck New Orleans.

Still, it's going to be nasty.

Re: Hurricane Ike Is Getting Very Serious

The exact quote is "Persons not heeding evacuation orders in single-family one or two story homes may face certain death,"

MAY face certain death? It's either certain or it's not.

If the idea is to get people out of danger then never mind MAY. Surely it should be "You face certain death. Get out you moron. Don't expect the rescue services to put their lives at risk to save your sorry butt."

Even then I suspect there are too many who would ignore the warning.

HM has it right. I'd have left at the first warning.

The problem with using "will" instead of "may" is that there will probably be a few suicidal morons that will stay behind, and one of them may survive, therefore, they can say that the warning was not all that true... That's my take on it, at least.

Interative weather map: (last one taken @ 6:30pm today)

Edit: correction, some go later than 6:30pm if you use different weather layers, found one that goes to 9:55pm,

looks like New Orleans have the highest winds at the moment
