Help On the move!!

Hi folks!!

advice greatly recieved. I've just accepted a new job in Godalming, Surrey so am now searching for a property to rent close by. Not lived in surrey before so am open to advice. I am looking at a couple of cottages in godalming itself but am willing to commute. Need at least 2 bedroom house max £1000 per month. Any advice on favourable locations within 20 mins drive(peak) of Godalming also easy public transport to Guilford.

cheers

neil

Do you have children?? (I presume not) ... you could always try Guildford ... one of my mates rented a BIG flat there a few years back for only £1000 pm ... If you're looking for good public transport then Farnham is out ...

... what other criteria have you got???

Re: On the move!!

I must be honest public transport is pretty poor in this area of the world ... (well poor whenever I need it which is basically when the pubs chuck out!!!)

Re: On the move!!

You're really going to struggle to find a rented house in surrey that allow dogs ... compared to other parts of the country what you are allowed to do in a rented property is very limiting ... generally, no smoking, no dogs, regular inspections, everything in the house must be EXACTLY is it was when you started the rental agreement as they will do anything to try and keep your deposit (video the place yourself as evidence - they're bastards!!!)

Good luck with your search

Re: On the move!!

There are plenty of outlying villages around the area but obviously public transport is not as good. Closest villages on the main train line to Guildford are Milford, Farncombe, Witley. We live in Milford which is a 15 min walk to Godalming. Farncombe effectively adjoins Godalming. You've ptrobably already found this out from a good map.

I was going to suggest woking, but it is a pain in the bum trying to get from woking to guildford in rush hour traffic ... and when it locks up ... it really locks up ...

Re: On the move!!

have been searching and visited last week for a few viewings

short list has 2 in farncombe, hare lane and summers road did visit one in milford too called woodpeckers but was fully furnished. still not bad as hare lane is 2 bed good decor and kitchen for £925 and summers road is not up as far as standards go but new carpets clean and tidy with a slightly bigger garden and rear parking space for £850.
so decesions to make.

did see a nice GF flat in a water tower in godalming with a split level main room with the bedroom overlooking the main room!! really swanky and a good sized garden but not the best home for pets.
