Big Boxing

Was just thinking...what has happened to the big boxing matches?
We don't have the big fights and superstars like we had through the last 40 years. Wonder what happened?

Re: Big Boxing

What about Joe Calzaghe V Roy Jones Junior in November. Ricky Fatton Vs Carl Mayweather.

Re: Big Boxing

Boxing has been decimated by over zealous promotors and too many organisations all claiming their own 'world champion'

The odd superfight pops up every now and then, but nothing like it used to.

If the belts were unified and we had just one world champion in every division, then we'd have far more superfights as the champion would be forced to take on the challenger.

It would also lend some credence to the title of World Champion.

But sadly this is cloud cuckoo stuff, there's too much money and too much interest floating around in maintaining the status quo for anything to change. Sad really.

The War On Terror is over...
...The Terrorists won.

Re: Big Boxing

I think most of them were either sent to prison and found a wacky religion or retired. I miss the days of Tyson and Lewis personally.

Re: Big Boxing

HST while I agree with the Promotors issue - there has never ever been a fight that couldn't be made because of it....

Sadly the Heavyweight division is barron of talent - so no big blockbuster fights....

But that happens from time to time - it happened in the lull of holmes his and we had about 6-7 years of dross before the emergence of Tyson.

As for other weights - some great fights keep popping up such as mighty joe and jones and hatton shown the art of boxing against slugging lesson mayweather dished out.

But someone will catch peoples attention and imagination before to long
