Re: replica cars

Let's just get one thing clear though. Replica and fake/close are not the same thing.

My Hawk is a pretty accurate replica of a Stratos externally and in much of the interior but nobody in the world would mistake it for a real one and I'd not be able to sell it as one either to anybody with a modicum of knowledge. After all who'd try to buy something as expensive and rare as a Stratos without knowing anything about one?

A fake/clone is made to trick people into thinking that it is the "real thing" - quite often to defraud some unlucky buyer into paying good money. There are fake Statos too but the build cost must these days be getting on for the cost of a real one. You'd have to be pretty knowledeable to spot a fake without doing some thorough research.

As for supereplicas.com, I don't think an electric powered car falls into the clone category unless it was already an electric car they wanted to clone. An MR2 isn't going to fool anybody they are in a Ferrari so I think that replica is only loosely suited to this company and clone doesn't even come close.

Re: replica cars

I only had a quick look but something feels decidedly fishy about Superreplicas.

As for the whole fake/clone thing - it's an emotive issue. I've no problem with a well-made homage to the original, like the Stratos or some of the Cobras just so long as they don't try to fool anyone about their provenance.

Indeed, I'd love an Alfa V6 engined Hawk Stratos myself.

I agree. I love the AC and Shelby Cobra's, but I'd be almost as happy to have a well made Dax Cobra on my drive, I'd not change the Dax badges, and I'd not pretend it was anything other than a copy. It's still uber-cool

Re: replica cars

yup fair enough but i'm midly interested in what the veyron replica with 2 BMW V10s' (so a V20) would go like.

As for clone, i'm not going to be in the market to buy a lambo but i'd entertain a good looking lambo styled car with a corvette v10 under the bonnet for $20k (he says wearing a 50euro tag from corfu... which i bought as i like the look without the price and might last half as long) as for the cobra and lotus 7 replicas out there, do you think in 50 years time we'd then entertain a kit car resembling an enzo??

Reading more into the site the elec. thing is a new idea using techno from Tesla the us company making the leccy Lotus, the cars built use either uprated toyota engines or a cost option of using GM yank v8 and v10 or BMW v10 v12 engines. Also all models can be made from scratch using a tubular chassis rather than a mr2 base.
