Warning Is the world going to end this Saturday?

Is the world going to end this Saturday?

This Saturday the most advanced scientific instrument ever built will be switched on in Geneva.

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has been built to test current theories for particle physics and scientists will try and recreate the conditions that existed just after the Big Bang by smashing parts of atoms together at high speeds.

When activated the collider could show one of the most elusive particles in our Universe, the Higgs boson, also called the “God particle”. This observation could confirm the Standard Model of physics unifying three of the four known fundamental forces: electromagnetism, the strong nuclear force and the weak nuclear force, leaving out just gravity.

However, other more dangerous particles will also be produced for which searches are planned, such as black holes, and never seen before particles of matter, and even now, the architects of what is being termed a “Doomsday” machine, the U.S. Department of Energy, Fermilab, the National Science Foundation and CERN are being sued in federal court over fears that this experiment may in fact destroy the planet.

Also our old friend Nostradamus’ words ring from the grave with this grim prediction:

Nostradamus quatrain 9 44:

Leave, leave Geneva every last one of you,
Saturn will be converted from gold to iron,
"Raypoz" will exterminate all who oppose him,
Before the coming the sky will show signs.

Did Nostradamus predict the Large Hadron Collider? Will the Earth disappear into a black hole of its own making?

Regards

Der Teufel

LHC: Bring it on!

Notice how the naysayers are mostly US based?

They've already thrown a spanner in the LHC
once before.

I will be pointing my marshmallows in the direction of Geneva for that crispy on the outside, melted on the inside goodness.

I thought it was getting switched on on the 21st of October - unless they have and it has warped time and Saturday will now be the 21st of October

Re: Is the world going to end this Saturday?

i remember reading about this some time ago. Interesting to hear it's cropped up again. No idea what it means, but we've heard the 'end of the world' wailings so many times that I'm not going to lose too much sleep over this one ;-)

How would that work then? If the world is destroyed who do you sue? If not how do you make it stick?
Looks like someone's getting a wodge from the US coffers for their 'preliminary investigations'.
Lets not forget who set off the world's first atom bomb. (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gadget) Opinion was split as to whether the explosion would ignite ALL the hydrogen in the atmosphere. That was one hell of a coin toss.

Re: Is the world going to end this Saturday?

I have posted about this contraption over a year ago

But the fundermental flaw of any experiment is the possible outcome to unknown events to a known event...

For example Christopher Columbus was sure he could reach asia by travelling around the globe west - now that in its day was a tremendous leap of faith - but was going on some sound principles and known data and information, what a suprise to him that actually he bumped into the carribean and america's....

sub-atomic particles are not manufactured in a controlled manner - and how do you control particles you don't know could be created

The thing that worries me is not so much as a large explosion or a microscopic black hole being able to form an accretion disk, but more that an unknown anomoly related to how time works within controlling how matter can be held in stable form....

Humans are getting ever closer to understanding how the universe works - but in its thirst for knowledge to get there I do feel they overlook the actual fact we are still a million miles away from gaining that knowledge...and not enough knoweledge is known about what will happen if time is ripped...

I'd personally blame their parents!

Seriously though, I sure hope nothing "uncontrollable/incomprehensable" happens and causes any harm to anything or anyone, otherwise I'll be rooting for it to be a failure!

GRRRRRrrrrrr!!!

I was thinking, if a black hole was created and we (&the universe as we know it?) all got sucked into it within a nanomilla-second or whatever, who'd know or care?
