Re: The Morning After Topgear......

I did not see the show but every guy in my office did and as I was picking up my 2001 Spider today all I heard was - "Margaret did you see Top Gear" and they all took great pleasure in telling me they had trashed Alfa Romeo - but I dont care I love my car already and I have only had it for 5 hours.

Re: The Morning After Topgear......

Really can't be bothered to see if this has already been done :

Could I just ask the naysayers to re-watch the Top Gear Alfa £1k challenge
here(1)
here(2)
here(3)
and here (4)
listen to the commentary , and count-up how many derogatory comments are made about Alfas by the presenters ?

Pm me with yr results , closest one to the correct figure wins a speshull prize !

Re: The Morning After Topgear......

The TG film crew seemed to be filming pretty much all day at Stanford Hall, covering a lot of ground, and for what; 5 mins max of TV footage.
This makes me wonder if they are going to use the extra footage (not related to the task), possibly for another italian car/alfa feature in the future.
Or am i just being naive to tv production methods.
still, i live in hope.

Re: The Morning After Topgear......

It's normal in TV-land to film far, far more footage then you'll need or use.

Re: The Morning After Topgear......

Seriously, watch it again. It comes across much better the second time.

I watched last night and found it hilarious, just as funny again tonight - did wince everytime may's gtv got a wallop though...

2 friends have bought alfa's after driving my 156 and now gtv, and a work collegue has remortgaged his house to buy a 159....

A show like TG won't put people off buying alfa, thats the job of the stealers.

The new spider was on show at my local shopping mall, and you couldn't get near the bl**dy thing for the crowds.

nuff said really.

Well ... GOD conned me out of 6500 bucks for car repairs.

Sounds like a reasonable compromise to me................................so not that unlike owning an Alfa then.

Re: The Morning After Topgear......

I got it off bittorrent last night and watched it (it will probably be 2010 before it is shown in Australia).

Of course I wish it had said more positive things, but thinking back over many years of Top Gear, I cannot think of any other marque that they have so consistently been enthusiastic about, sometimes in a rather backhanded way. Perhaps we should return the compliment:

"Of course, we Alfa Romeo owners always say that you can't be a real petrolhead unless you watch Top Gear - even if they do talk drivel occasionally."

Excellent post Stewart, but I would change "occasionally" to "often".
